Sport40 is my favorite class and has been for 13 years now. There isn't anyone out there that wants to keep the tradition of sport40 alive more than me. Nothing will change aesthetically, just what hangs off the back. I am not looking at performance gains, just the ease of adjustment and mounting. Gas Sport Hydro and Sport20 both have struts on the transom...both are popular classes with Sport20 growing faster than any other nitro class in IMPBA.

You have to ask yourself....if you were creating rules today from scratch, you would look at what is running now in the limited circuit. Take a look at http://www.roostertails.net. You will see that almost all have transom mounted struts.

I will have to vote (no) any proposal to change the strut.

It is to a smaller scale boat. That was why the strut come throuh the bottom of boat.

I guess you waNT TO CHANGE THE SCALE RULES TO.

PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS DISCUSSION SO SERIOUS, YOU ALL WON'T WAKE UP IN THE MORNING AND FIND THAT WE'VE MOVE YOUR STRUT TO THE TRANSOM. :D PUT IT TO A VOTE AND SEE IF IT PASS OR FAILS.

IF AN UNLIMITED HYDRO RACE WITH THE STRUT ON THE TRANSOM, THEN YOU CAN LEGALLY RUN YOUR SCALE THAT WAY WITH OUT A VOTE OR RULE CHANGE. WE'RE NOT TRYING TO HURT THE CLASS OR ANYONE'S FEELING, JUST A DISCUSSION TO GET A FELL ON WHAT EVERYONE THINKS ABOUT IT.

Any discussion about changing the rules of an existing class need to be taken seriously.

This isn't scale, it's sport 40. It's doubtful that such a change would attract new boaters to the class. In fact, if passed, it might have the opposite effect. If there's a performance advantage to transom mounted struts, people with an existing sport 40 may decide this is a good time to dump them and switch to another class. Oops, there goes another nitro class.

There are so many more pressing issues facing R/C boat racing, such as how to attract and keep new boaters and obtaining and keeping racing sites. Why are people even talking about changing an existing class? Protect the investment people have made in their sport 40 boats and setup time by leaving the rules alone.

Chuck, wasn't it you that started another thread on the IMPBA .21 sport outboard class, suggesting that we change it to a true "stock" configuration??? So should all of the people, including myself, who have been abiding by the current .21 sport rules throw out all of the "setup time" we have put into the boats? Has your views on this class changed, because you seem to be contradicting yourself with your above statement?

Sorry to get off subject, but.....

1/8 scale rules are the same rules I am wanting for Sport40. IF the real boat had a transom mounted strut, then the scale boat can have a transom mounted strut. I would appreciate people only responding to this thread IF they actually run Sport40. GEESH!

I am going to write up the proposal, same as the sport20 rules. If it gets voted in, then great. If it gets voted down, then great. At least we know what the majority wants.

This little rule change will not hurt the class in any way shape or form. The good guys will still be good...the not so good guys will still be not so good. It's not like if you put your strut on your transom you will gain 10mph so in order to be competitive, you must do it. It is an OPTION.

NO

My only point was to make the hulls more stable at the higher speeds thier reaching, longer wheelbase would proably do that, I run A Phil Thomas hull with no complaints this is a very nice good running hull, its just that I see lots of sport 40,s are not finishing races due to blowing off due to the high speeds , its all about fun the more races you can finish the more fun it is. and will attract more boaters if every body is having FUN, I am not trying to make everyone change thier setups, I am not all sure that I would change mine, I am leading points in sport 40 Dist 2, just looking into future when engines get even more power. also a boat builder up Canada is building great looking sport 40,s and cannot run them in this Country. If we talk about losing boaters here is a prefect example, they have strut on transom. Its all about FUN chuck

Chuck Spragg, I was refering to PiperChucks reply. Not you. Sorry I should have been clear.

Yes, I opened up a discussion. I never suggested that it be put to a vote, and most of the replies said don't change it. Where's the contradiction? Now let's move past your ad-hominem and get back to the sport 40 discussion.

Are the blow offs due to an under the hull strut or other issues? Are these older hull designs with newer engines? At the beginning of the season I had a problem with blow offs. A simple strut adjustment cured it.

Isn't it kind of short sighted for someone to build a competition boat that's not legal within the accepted classes? Last time I checked, IMPBA was not a US only organization. Are you proposing that we change the rules of an existing class to suit a builder who didn't have the foresight to stay within those rules?

And yes, it is all about fun. I know lots of people who don't consider adjusting to changing rules to be any fun at all!

THE STRUT ON THE TRANSOM IS NOT MANDATORY IT AN OPTION. WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS FOR 2 DAYS WHEN IT ONLY TAKE A $1.98 BRASS TUBE AND 4 HOLES IN THE TRANSOM AND IT A DONE DEAL.

IF YOU MOVE YOUR STRUT AND FIND YOU DON'T LIKE IT THERE, YOU SIMPLY MOVE IT BACK.

I THINK A NEW BOATER TO THE SPORT WOULD FIND IT A LOT EASIER TO DRILL 4 HOLES IN THE TRANSOM AND MOUNT THE STRUT OPPOSE TO CUTTING A SLOT AND DRILLING 4 HOLE AND AT THE SAME TIME KEEP THE STRUT SQUARE TO THE TRANSOM. YOU CAN DRILL 4 HOLE AND MOUNT THAT STRUT IN 10

MINUTES, IT'S A VERY SIMPLE, SIMPLE, CHANGE IF YOU DECIDES YOU DON'T LIKE, JUST MOVE IT BACK.

Harvey Lieberman winner of the Spring Nats award started boating with a PT Miss Bud 1/8 scale and an AC Model Sport 40. I must say YES to this change.

Dont know for sure but i think you can only adjust the the strut to a certain point then the sponsons angle of attack is wrong and we dont want to get into changing those, where the problem will be comming from is that an 8 1/2 pound boat going over 65 mph, the air trapped going under the will become greater than the boats weight thus air born, yes I know the record is faster than that but thats not heat racing, consistensey is the key to finish and winning, I also know that most sport 40,s do not hit those speeds yet, but its on the way, I have seen the new CMB redhead run stock out of the box, with more power than some modified greenheads , you mod that one the class will be running those speeds with less and less finishes, just trying to get boat more stable at those speeds, are there any other suggestions that might make them more stable other than adding weight. isnt sport 40 kinda like an entry level mid type boat that beginers can get their feet wet before stepping up to scale class, thats how I worked it first boat sport then to scale chuck

If you guys that are reading and have comments would go to members gallery then to user,s galleries then to page 5 and look at Eric Gadoury gallery and page 9 at Marc Pages gallery and tell me that you would not let those boats run in this class, they look like the real deal , remember the objective is to try to get boat more stable, moving strut will not make the prop spin one RPM faster just more stable

I dont know what the objective is,this class as is works well. Find something else to change that needs fixxed. If your blowing off your sport 40 make adjustment or put an air dam under it, works for me......
