Lol, you can keep that mount Terry! lol. I may have some good news regarding the Circus Dumas cowling in Epoxy glass. I will know more in a few days. Lets just say an old friend called tonight, and the topic came up! I will tell you more when I know more. Mike
mike lets just say i am amped to see this project go, very nice work and these epoxy glass cowlings are really getting me excited about this even more, now some eglass wing sets from rc boat works and we will be set.

No no, we will be doing Epoxy glass over foam wings and rear fins. I learned that last night too! Stronger, and better than RC Boatworks! Mike

Can you post a photo of the foam wire cutter that you used on this hull? What are your recommendations for a wire cutter, for someone who doesn't have one yet, and may want to build one?

Thanks

I will be using blue foam, and it will have bracing internally so that it doesn't rip off. No worrys man! It will right! mike

Yawn!!! Still awaiting newton plans. However, I got my second circus dumas kit from terry yesterday, and I don't know if anyone knew this, but there are two versions of the abs cowling. The old on is almost impossible to make a mold from, but the newer one offers a perfect platform for molding, and it has a lot more detail! Little vents and hatch line indention. So, I will be working on that over the next week. Epoxy here I come!

Plans arrived today. I'm going to finish up my whip 20 build this week, then start the sponson build for my circus and probably just build two more for my high life hull!

Looked over the newton plans, and with the complexity of the sponsons, stick building them may be the way to go. This will make the hull a hybrid WOF center former with.stick built sponsons. I will still be using the dumas center section as I do not like how the newton center is over 11" wide. The dumas is a little over 10", and based on my 42" kneeler builds, 11" is just too wide, especially with me cutting a lot of weight.so far my center former comes in at 2.5lbs, and that is with the abs cowl and aluminum exh tube. I am working with a gentleman in cali that is doing an epoxy cowling and epoxy exhaust tube which will drop weight, and give me the ability to remove a lot of exhaust tube framing and maximize radio box room. Since I will be electric, it will allow the exh tube and cowling to be one big removable piece being held to the boat like a tunnel hulls cowling is. Should be very easy to gain access to the radio box. I will continue with the build once I have more info from my epoxy guy and as the sponsons come along, Mike

measured both tunnels when I got home. The dumas may be 1/2" narrower! Not to bad! I started on the sponson formers tonight. Right now I am cutting framing templates for the rest of my evening! Mike

Well, I started on the sponsons tonight. I put the newton plans on CADD today, and printed out some templates the way I wanted the sponsons. Here is what I got done. Looking good so far! Not to bad for one nights work! By the way, The hull so far without the cowl or exhaust tubing is weighing in at 2.8lbs, and with cowling and exhaust tubing 3.8lbs. I will probably be able to shave off a lot of that cowling/exhaust tubing weight since they will both be full epoxy parts and should be super light. I think the hull being only 2.8lbs so far is doing great! Mike

You are getting ahead of me Hydro, I know that the transoms of the sponsons is suppose to be 1/4", and I have added the 3/16" material tonight. I wanted to cover up the strake ends, which is why that was not added. It looks great now. Also, the deck edge doesnt extend the full length on dumas or newtons plans. Mike

K, Been working on the sponsons some more. Got the strakes installed, and some more holes put threw the inside edge to knock some weight, and epoxied the whole mess! I also began working on an Exhaust tube plug so my mold specialist can do the exhaust tube in epoxy. He pulled a part from his cowling mold yesterday, and it weighed in a 8oz total weight for the circus/ miller cowl. Pic below of the part. I weighted my dumas abs cowling, and with no structure inside, it weights a little over a 1lb. So we are already at a 1/2lb lighter on the cowling assembly, and I think the exhaust tube being epoxy will shave even more weight. I included some pics of that crappy dumas exhaust tube, which folded on me of course! The sole reason I started on a plug for a better setup! Mike
