Is Arno still running boats? I haven't seen him in years.

Al Hobbs

Al, I dont personally know him, but after talking to Mike Hughes for a while last night. I think it is safe to say that he has moved on to other things. I just wanted another option for a 20 boat, and Mike Hughes came through with this set of plans for me.

Arno has not run any boats in 10 yrs or so. I saw him 6 yrs ago at he model expo and he said he had bought a big boat and gotten married to his long time girl friend. I miss him. I always loved to see him show up at a race and be working frantically in the back of his truck. He was trying to finish his new boat that he stay up till 3 that night trying to finish. He would end up missing the first heat and then get it done by the 2nd one. He did this several times over the years. Classic Arno.

ok, and they are now officially off to Kevin to get laser cut. After I get the framework back, I will make deck/bottom/sponson skin templates, and have him cut them for me also. Will be nice to have these plans all in a file format now.

got them back from Kevin today. Here is it in 3/32 ply. Just the stringers for now. Its just dry fitted together right now. I still have to make some changes to the cut file, as most of the stringers arent the correct height, but that was to be expected. Once I get the changes made to the file, I will send it back off to Kevin for another go round. Also need to make deck, pan, and sponson sheeting. Anyhow, onto the good stuff:

Contact Arno... I'm sure he would be able to help. Mike Hughes can help with contact details, I'm sure, if you need help.

ok, did some more work tonight. I glued up the kit, and sanded down the tops of everything, so its all flush now. I have made some changes to the kit, that should make the fit abit better. I hope to have the bottom all sanded tomorrow, and start to make templates for the deck/tub and sponson sheeting. Anyhow, on to the good stuff:

Hey Rodney

You could go with 1/16 ply for the bulkheads and bottom sheeting. 3/32 is kind of big. I used that on my Tboat on bulkheads and bottom sheeting. It is 54" long. Kind of wished I had gone 1/16th. Did not need the 3/32.

Mike

Rodney, I see something I recommend changing. You have a lot of sharp points and square corners in the lightening holes. These are stress points that could crack and fail. I would recommend you round off the corners and points along with going with the thinner ply Mike recommended. The results will be a lighter and more durable boat. Just my opinion ;)

Mike, the new kit will be 1/16th. I had to have Kevin cut it out of 3/32 after a last minute mistake. I made the slots .080 and it was way to loose for 1/16th. So I had him cut it out of 3/32 so I could actually assemble it tight and see what needed changing.

alright, Kevin has the new files for the sheeting, and the new correct framework. So in the mean time, I started messing with a whiplash cowl I had here, and I think I like it honestly! The rear winglet has to go still, but other then that, I think it looks pretty good. Let me know what you think. Keep in mind, this is just a mock up. I plan to make a cowl plug and mold after I figure out exactly how I want this.
