This is really cool. May I suggest we get a group photo sometime during race weekend....I mean the entire group. Imagine having that pic on your wall and being able to point out so many of these people in one picture! I know how we can get them all in the pic too.
I guess we can let the TBM in the pic too. Even some of them have left their mark on tunnel racing.........in more ways than one!
Do they make a wide angle lens that wide?

Thought you guys might like to see what's coming to dinner in March! Hope it lives up to its name "Army Strong" OSSI Gas Outboard, one each by James Beasley, Fort Monroe, VA. Graphics done by Jim Geiger, paint by MAACO.

Not a wide angle lens! More like 4 rows deep. A row sitting, kneeling, standing and standing behind them on the drivers stand. Thats about 20 people per row but that should fit.

Nice looking boat there James. Give those North Fl. boys a run. :p

james, it certainly looks army strong! if it runs like your other tunnels, it WILL be army strong, imo :D . see ya in march.

Jack,

Your ticker is toast.......

I just talked to Hazlewood [aka.needledick].He is going to get in touch with the Chinaman,Joe,Skip and Dunny

and make plans for all to meet in S.C. for a night out at the titty bar... :D

The only catch will be is if we could find a U-Haul with a that has enough room for all the wheelchairs, walkers and O2 tanks.

Seriously,I am going to talk to Needledick today and I will say hello for you.You never can tell, they all might all be up for a roadtrip to S.C.

[if the threat of that happening doesn't make your ticker kick into overdrive, nothing will.]

With 250 boats, this contest should remind you a lot of a District 19 outboard race in the '80's.

This resurgence of the outboard classes has been fun to watch.

Hey guys, I have updated the website, and entry list. Take a look at the list, tell me if anything is wrong. Few more slots available to fill up the heats...

Thanks, James

James,

1. The following two listings are not allowable engine / hull combinations in Sport 40, maybe the info is not what they will actually run, but just thought I would advise you. K&B or OS Twin are the only legal options for this class as I understand it. This could free up two more spots in this class.

Mark Hopper, HTB / CMB

Mike Crawford, Woodstuff / Rossi

2. CD Question: I am curious how the heats will be organized and run accounting for the huge numbers of boats in each class? I foresee a lot of run offs?? Will the heat assignments be done randomly while of course accounting for freqs?

Hi James, let me see if I can answer these.

1. "Sport 40 Tunnel" is not a normal or recognized class in IMPBA, it is a class that we, the Charleston Model Boaters, came up with. The only rule, as stated on the flyer for this class is that the engine(s) must be within the "D" class limits, and there will be no tuned pipes allowed. Anything else goes. CMB engines with K&B can style mufflers are completely legal, as well as a muffled Rossi engine. This was started a few years ago by us as an outlaw type class, with the one restriction of no tuned pipes. No tapered portions will be allowed. Things may change in the future for this class, but for now this is how it is going to work.

2. We are currently finalizing the heat/race structure, and the problems you mentioend will be addressed. Stay tuned to this thread for more info on that. The Club has been approving the schedule, and we are almost ready to realease it to the racers. Heat assignments are always done randomly (heat race software does this for us) by the CMB, there will be no "heat stacking", atleast not intentionally.

Does this answer your questions? Thanks! ~James

PS, The Ossi Tunnel looks Awesome!

James et al,

Question #1 was answered very well and so was #2. Will add a little more on that one:

1. We will run 8 boat heats whenever possible. We have a very large lake that can handle it with no problem. Examples are - Gas has 2 heats of 5 boats each. People will be racing against each other a lot. B (20) tunnel will have 9 heats with 8 almost every heat. You will not be racing against the same people and will not be racing against many. Similar plans for the other classes.

2. Once the heat draws are done for each class, every heat (over 140 of them) will be checked for frequencies (many racers are going to 2.4), duplicates and contestants. Very time consuming but necessary.

3. The CMB club will the addressing the 4 classes with the highest number of entries and the run off possibilities. We will announce it soon. Those classes will also have trophy awards for places 1-6, an increase from the previous 1-3 places.

Rest assured to all that the CMB club is keenly aware of the challenges and the adjustments needed for a proper balance for a competitive race with the fairest result possible for all. Just keep an open mind and you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for the two answers James and JK,

James and/or John Knight,

Wow, I did not know this info about non-production motors being allowed in Sprot 40. Ok, so when you say no tapered portions, your referring to the conical sections like on a tuned pipe, right? So, any motor of 7.5 cc outfitted with a muffler off of a K&B Pro, or even a home made can type muffler, is legal as long as it has no expansion chamber effect and is under the dB level, right?

Hi Guys, the Charleston Model Boater's club members have unanimously decided that a change was needed for this years 2008 World Tunnel Champs. Please read the following information. Any questions, please post on here and we will answer you to the best of our ability.

NOTICE TO ALL RACERS ATTENDING THE WORLD TUNNEL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MARCH 2008

Due to the incredible response to this race and the very high number of entries in several classes, the Charleston Model Boaters (CMB) club members have voted to make a change for the race that is most necessary. The classes in question are:

B (20) tunnel – 71 entries

Sport B (20) tunnel – 58 entries

D (40) tunnel – 47 entries

Open tunnel – 30 entries

It will be a virtual certainty, that a large number of runoffs will be required, which will lengthen the race. So in order to reduce the need for as many runoffs, if any, the CMB club will do the following for the race among those classes ONLY:

1. Run the 4 rounds of racing as normal.

2. Create an A (final) and B (consolation) main similar in nature to the scale class uses.

3. The A main will contain the top 5 boats in points and have an automatic bye to the final heat that will contain 6 boats only. The class champion will come from this final heat.

4. The B main will consist of the boats having the points for positions 6-11 (6 boats). The winner of this heat will advance to the A final heat.

5. A set of priority criteria will be established by the CMB club to break point ties and determine positions and to hopefully eliminate additional runoffs for all classes.

6. Awards will be now given for places 1-6, one each for the racers in the A main.

The primary purpose of this change is to control the number of heats needed to be run, reduce the possibility for additional runoffs and to reward those that finish in places 1-6 in these high entry classes. In addition, a true champion will be crowned through a final heat that contains the racers with the highest amount of points for the race. Honestly a best of the best race.

The remaining 4 classes, Sport D, MOD-VP, E/F and Gas will run under the traditional format of 4 heats and awards. No A & B mains.

The CMB club hopes that this will be agreeable with the majority of racers. We could not foresee the excellent response and give advance notice to all racers.
