    JAE Gas Outrigger Build Thread

center-punching with a sharp center punch is always recommended when drilling metal.... absolutely necessary when drilling a round tube! In fact, when drilling in round tubing, it's a good idea to centerpunch, drill a pilot hole with a smaller drill first-then drill to final size. Wes

    JAE gas rigger build

Guys- A lot more people (I'm sure) read these posts than actually reply and get actively involved in the discussion... Like me, most of the time! I'd just like to say that I really appreciate the pictures following/documenting a build this way- it's a huge asset for us visual learners out here...

    JAE Gas Outrigger Build Thread

Whoa, must have really have been warped if even weights didn't help. To keep the 2 laminates aligned, you might want to apply the glue, align the 2 pieces- then stick a pin through both somewhere forward and another one aft- to ensure the 2 pieces remain aligned. You can clip the pin off, and...

    SWISS CHEESE TUB

David- I think you'll find that when you compress the laminate, what will happen is the excess epoxy will squeeze out into the holes, and you won't get rid of as much excess as you might hope to... Good luck with your project- interesting concepts. Wes

    JAE Sponson support end treatment?

Building progressing nicely on my .21 JAE rigger... wondering what to do with the ends of the sponson supports? The brass tube runs all the way through the sponson, the C/F rods also- so I have this hollow C/F rod, sticking through the sponson, ending flush with the brass tubing. Is there...

    scratch building a JAE .21

To question #5- the center box- running down the C/L of the tub acts as a sponson... you'll notice that the tail end of it looks just like- and will function like- a sponson, in that the back end of the boat will drop down and run on that, as opposed to dropping down on the entire tub bottom...
