Mike,

you would be honored to drive Jeff's Miss Houston. I dont know if this pic will appear ( I have never posted one), but this is his boat winning a qualifying heat at the NW Championships. He drove his boat in this condition for I think at least three plus laps.

Thanks, Al Waters

I'm still amazed by that picture!

I finally got an answer from HR today about 4 vacation days I lost earlier this year. I was going to try and take them to make the race but I ran into two problems. Since I worked and got payed for the vacation days they'd be taking 1 1/2 out of my paycheck and my manager wouldn't give me the days off on this short notice.

I guess I'll have to wait for the Grand Prix in Fremont next year to feed my scale racing addiction :(

Roger,

Maybe I should have been more politically correct. :)

Instead of da bomb, I should have gone 1/8th scale terms and said grenade. Like thats what I did to my motors. :(

It wasn't pretty. ;)

See ya, Al Waters

OMG! That's the same Houston? Wow, I might just drive that then. Impressive if he ran that way for three laps.

Hahaha... Yep, that’s the same Miss Houston and Yes, I ran 3 1/2 laps like that for a finish. I remember at the time, I was just concerned about trying to keep the other boat on top around the corners as I thought it would be pretty cool to finish that way - Get the Hallmark a finish too. ;)

As it ended up, I actually did finish the heat with the Hallmark still balanced on top. After I pulled to shore and shut her off, my Houston immediately sank under the weight of the other boat.

That was around 33 lbs. my MAC was running around the course! Talk about Power.

You never know what can happen at the NW Scale Hydroplane Championship! Hope a lot more of you guys can make it! It's great to meet you guys from this board. It was good to see you there last year Glenn, too bad you can't make it this year - hmm looks like you are coming down with something... you better call in sick for that weekend ;) B)

I'm shipping my boat to Roger's and I land Friday around 5:30. I'll head to his house go finish putting things together. Just wings cowl and turbine tube and such. Game for a dinner after that if a few of you guys want to get together.

Guys,

Marty and I will be setting up the site all day on Friday with the help he lines up that day. We play it by ear on Friday depending on when we get done but we are open to anything. He likes to talk a lot.

Usually at least a cold one is in order. :)

Marty takes registration on race day. Both groups are used to doing that during the year and Marty has a slick setup for registering at the race site. I think that you will enjoy racing in Washington. It will be different than what you are used to. Marty has taken what UNW and RCU does during the year and has added a few things that he and I agree on which I think makes for a pretty good race.

6 rounds of qualifying for two Connies and a Final and a Saturday night get together. It doesnt get any better than this.

See you next week.

If I called in sick my manager did mention she'd track me down and open a can of whoop-ass on me

I'm a coward :(

Oh Glenn just sack up and just tell her you're going boat racing and you don't care what she says you'll be back on Tuesday! That probably would go over like a fart in church though......better just call in sick with some new mystery virus instead.

Man I must have had the serious San Diego voodoo going on a couple of weeks ago. Went out late yesterday afternoon to run the Miller and get a needle and flow it before packing it up and it ran like a scalded ape. How irritating.....really need to get my set-up better for SD next year.

Since nobody's answered this one yet, you're looking at 55 to 60 miles from the airport to both the race site or the hotel. From the hotel to the race site is about 5 minutes, depending on traffic. One thing I think those of you that don't know the Everett area should know is that you will be looking at a couple miles of back-ups as well as stop and go traffic on I-5 starting in south Everett. The backup is normal for a Friday, but the construction makes it considerably worse. There are a couple of ways to get past this mess, so if you're interested I can post them

I'm a newbie that is building the U-95 and was wondering who will be attending the swap meet on saturday night and what kind of gear you might be bringing.. I'll be looking for a pipe for ops .67 engine, all driveline parts including strut and rudder, turn fin and bracket and motor mounts. Also just looking to mingle and have fun talking and asking questions.. I believe marty said Saturday at 7pm ish at the Alfy's in Smokey Point.. Are kids allowed..? I have 2 and will probably bring them. Thanks

Okay, you asked for it :D

1) From north I-5, take exit 189. Stay to the right and follow the off ramp to the traffic light. DO NOT GO OVER THE BRIDGE.

2) At the light, turn left and stay in the right lane. You will cross over I-5 and come to another traffic light.

3) Turn right at this light(there is a turn lane) and move one lane left ASAP (or you will be headed to I-5 South). Go straight in right lane past the Olympic Boat Center and down the hill. You will stay on this road till it merges into North Broadway

4) When you get to North Broadway, you will be in the left lane after crossing a short bridge, STAY IN THAT LANE and proceed through town

5) If you have followed these directions and stayed in the left lane, you will cross a draw bridge over the Snohomish River and be on HWY 529. Again, STAY IN THE LEFT LANE. It will put you back onto I-5 North at the south end of Marysville. If you get in the right lane, you will go into Marysville

6) Stay on I-5 North to Exit 206 (about 7 miles)

To get to hotel:

1) Turn right at top of off ramp and straight through traffic light at Smokey Point BLVD

2) Follow 172nd Street through next traffic light. Hotel will be on your right, behind Shell Mini Mart

To get to race site:

1) From Exit 206, turn left and cross over freeway. From hotel, you need to retrace your path back to and over freeway.

2) Go past mini mart (on left) to first traffic light

3) Turn left at light and go straight till road comes to a "T" just past Costco. Turn left and follow road till stop sign(you should be looking at freeway at this point)

4) Turn right and look to your right, parking areas will be just past construction zone. I would recommend the second parking area as it's bigger, not to mention better access to both lakes.

5) Go Race :)

Mike,

What time of day are you getting in to SeaTac? There is a BIG difference in which way you want to go depending on what time of day you are making the treck.

If you want to you can PM me and I'll give you my cell number, I live in Everett and work just down the freeway from the race site so I can help you get around if you need it.

Kelly.

Well its time to go racing. It looks like the weather will be cooperating with high temperatures in the low sixties and dry. With some very enthusiastic racers coming from as far as Miami and San Diego we should have some incredible racing at the NW Scale Hydroplane Championship Race. Saturday we will start testing at 9:30 or earlier if possible with heat 1A at 11:30. We will be registering the racers just prior to heat 1A so don’t think that it’s too late. We will also be very forgiving as to the appearance of the boats as we know that this is the end of a long season, although they do need to meet safety requirements. The Saturday night swap meet will be at Aphys Pizza in Smokey Point starting at around 5pm. We have a room reserved where we can eat, drink, tell lies and swap parts. All are welcome!!!!!!! So replace those tired bearings, charge those batteries, check out the fuel system and “Go race for all the Marbles”

Marty

I agree, it all depends on the time of day. Unfortunately, the back up usually forms before 2:00 PM and lasts till 6:30 or 7:00 on Friday, so an alternate route is probably going to be helpful. Too bad I can't do the same for the Seatle area, but being in Marysville and working in Lynnwood, need I say more :D

There's also a rumor circulating that some of the Dist. 8 tunnel and rigger racers are going to show up with there scale boats and give it a try. Are you with me 57Fairlane? Also if a out of erea person would need some repairs I'll be happy to offer my shop I live about 6 miles from the lake. :) Greg

Mike Allen what time are you going to get there? By the way I'll mail your stuff out. not much room in bags and I don't want to run the risk of it getting messed up. I'm landing at about 5:30 and by the time I get the rental car and stuff it'll be 6-6:30 and then I have to go Roger's and unpack my boat and put it back together. My sis and brother in law live in Snohomish so I was going to call them for the skinny on the way to get there.

For any of you guy's that have to bite the bullet and take I-5 northbound, stay in the left lane. All (most) of the Everett congestion is cause by all the exits on the right side of the freeway being very close together. (my opinion). Plus all the Boeing traffic that starts at 2:00.

Brent
