Last year I bought a torque screwdriver but sofar I havn't done much with it. Boating season is over, so this winter I want to start using it.

My question is what torque settings do you use and do you have different settings for:

- thread size

- location (head button / carb etc).

- size engine (I've got 21 / 45 / 90 engines).

Thanks for you input.

Hello Paul, I have been using my torque driver for the past 20 + years. Here are the torque specs per thread size / bit size.

Listed as Screw Size/Thread - (Torque setting) - Hex Bit size

2.0 mm (5 to 7 in-lb) 1.5 mm

2-56 (6 to 8 in-lb) 2.0 mm

2.5 mm (8 to 10 in-lb) 2.0 mm

4-40 (12 to14 in-lb) 3/32

3.0 mm (13 to 15 in-lb) 2.5 mm

5-40 (14 to 16 in-lb) 3/32

6-32 (17 to 21 in-lb) 7/64

4.0 mm (20 to 24 in-lb) 3.0 mm

8-32 (22 to 26 in-lb) 9/64

I only torque head bolts and do them all (21's to 90's) to 12 oz-in in two steps, 6 oz-in then finally to 12 in a criss-cross pattern.

make sure the screws and holes in the case are clean or it'll throw the settings off.

FWIW I do the case bolts by hand with blue loctite, head bolts are clean.
