What is a competitive speed for a Sport 45 race set up?

Will 60 mph do it or does it take 65+ these days?

Thanks!

60 -62 is good. 65+ and your really moving.

Like Ray said 60-62 is a great top end speed but if the boat can't turn good and keep good speed in the corners you will get beat every time. Use a stop watch and work on lap times also find that very fine edge between to tight and to loose(Blowover) and keep it just a little on the tight side.

It's interesting that the NAMBA SAW and two lap records set by Mark Anderson with his Mutt II still stand. The two lap time was 23.52 (over 50 mph average) and the SAW speed was 81+ mpg. Both were set in 2001.

this is very true.i was going 55-56MPH way back in 92'-93' with a Muck hull with a modded OS Max .46 and only had a few boats that were faster but not as consistent. i would have won the NAMBA District 1 championship but my car broke down on the NJ turnpike and that was that.

.you do not always have to be the fastest to win, just finish...

Ok thanks for the replies everyone.

Was helping a customer set up a Phil Thomas.

It's running a MAC 45, Brown 45 parabolic, and cupped 1450.

Handling well in all water conditions is great, corners well on the buoys.

Is consistent at 63 - 64 mph without taking out plugs.

I am thinking a trimmed 1455 with less cup will be even better.

That will be the next test.

Thanks again!

Send me one of those trimmed 1455 too

Boaters,

You may want to try a 2115 or 2117 also?

The 1455 works well reduced to 53 mm.

Can I send you my 2115 and see if you can get it to work. I can't.

452/2 Blade reduced to 50mm and a 450/3.

I ran my pt stealth with a cmb purple head, ops pipe, on 60% and a ran a x452 back cut like a check mark. I set a fastime that was 3.5 seconds off of Mark Anderson's heatrace record with this setup. here's the prop:

To bad the AB5077B/3 is not still around.....................................Some buddy needs to cast this prop!!!!!!!!

Yes Kenny H and I have had good runs with the 1455, pinched up the trailing edge to get the roostertail low and cup the tips to adjust the load.
