July 1992, a hot Summer in Huntsville Ala.

Altitude: 600ft.

Density altitude: 2500ft. (meaning the air was not good.)

Event: IMPBA Internats

Class: F hydro S.A.W Time trials

Boat: Eagle twin

Engines: Picco Hydro 90's with MACS 15 cc pipes set at heat race length.

Props: ABC 67 X 114 Dia. 64mm Cup 5.8" Same props used for heat racing.(These props are 1667 copies)

Hull Set-up: Race trim, Race turnfin & rudder.

Result: One way pass of 91 mph with 89 mph average. New IMPBA F Hydro SAW record.

Heat racing results: 3rd place. 2nd place was another Eagle twin with a similar set-up.

My point? It doesn't take Huge overcupped props to run 90+ mph with a twin 90.
Andy, I know you did that with Manard Cagle's twin. That same year right after the boat was built,Manard brought that boat to a race at my local pond,in Mobile,Al.You were there and so was Art Mcmeans. You ran Manard's twin 92 mph on a stalker radar,I watched the run.BUT, you changed the props to some 3 blades to run that.I don't know which ones, possibly the s-40 3 blades? Or 2167's?Right after you ran Manard's twin,Art put one of those props on his single hydro 90 powered Eagle and ran 88.This was all in open water. The day before the race I watched Manard run that boat with the SS 67x114's and watched it get clocked 77-81 mph.See ya, Jeff

So what's your point Jeff? Are you questioning my claim to have run 91 with 67X114's? I suppose Maynard had a bad tune. I hadn't seen the boat for sometime before that day in Mobile when I walked up and mounted a set of 2167/3 blades (not exactly SAW props!) The time I set the record at the Internats with the 67X114, I had the boat in my possession for a few days before, so I did have time to get it all tuned up to my satisfaction.

No, But I was wondering if you possibly went up on nitro,or something to gain the 10 mph.The pond altitude in Mobile is about 50 ft.Plus, I was just pointing out that I witnessed the boat run 92 with the 3 blades. When ya'll changed the props at the pond,ya'll gained that much speed.I watched it.Speaking of 2167/3's I don't care for them either for straightaways, but I seen a pair run 106.787 mph in Valdosta,Ga.You put those props on Eric Canto's twin for straightaways.See ya,Jeff

60% Nitro, a new set of 67X114's and some tuning time. Maynard was a great guy, but tuning boats was not his forte! I was afraid to put more than 60% in those Picco Hydro 90's. They were fragile!

Andy, I think full blade pitch is more important than cup. Great to see you are back. Hope to see you at the races soon.

Please advice,

Cup is not the most important, but full blade pitch is not "more important" than cup.

Let's think about this. Octura claims that the 1667 has 4.2 inches of full blade pitch. We will assume it does for the purpose of this conversation. Octura claims the X670 has 4.4 inches of full blade pitch. According to that, we could trim a little diameter off the X670 and have a prop that could potentially give a little more speed than the 1667 at the same rpm. Yes?

Someone might say that the X670 does not have the same lift. Possibly!.... but if so, just add a bit of shaft angle. Yes!

Well, I just wonder if anyone had tried the X670 on the big riggers? Looks like it should be a fast prop if full blade pitch is most important.

Or what about a P775? Cut to 67mm it should be a killer twin 101 prop with it's full blade pitch of 5.0" Anyone try that prop?

Well maybe I just confused the issue!

Actually many things are equally important and in the end, full blade pitch is simply the end result of many other factors that must be implemented FIRST.

I could hand you 5 different props that had the same blade area, the same lift and finally your most important factor of the same full blade pitch on all 5 props and not one of them would run the same speed.

Go back and read my 2003 RCBOATS.COM post that was reposted here. You may have to think about it for awhile, but it will give you some insight.

I ran the H667 on my 90 twin with cmb HR91's, stock cup, only thing i did was cut the diameter down to 63.5mm

boat ran 90mph every lap

regards Aaron

Well glad that Andy has posted on this... I have been removing the leading edge of the prop & bending more TE cup for a while . its the way to go faster with the props that are sold today. The ABC props are Strong & will hold More Cup. Many of the Octura`s You will have to keep an eye on them. They will Open Up & Bend a blade over backward just about the time you began to see a big speed increase. I have seen many older 1465 props from Many years ago that was modified very heavely for this same advantage. it was an older great base line prop for many boats.

Hey just make sure this fall nats make sure No one runs over someone else's twin rigger. My twin will be ready I'm taking it to SC but I'm not going to race it I'll breaking in my engines and tunning it but it stays in the trailer.

But I'll race it in the near future.
