Hi all

I've just finished putting a VS1 together with a K&B 3.5SX on the back and won't get to run it until the 5th of September. Has anyone tried this combination and have any hints about setup/prop/ balance etc compared to the OS-Max?

There's a fair weight difference for a start

Cheers guys

If you have not ran the motor yet send it to Rod Geraghty and it will fly. We like the 1440 back cut Mark Anderson prop and the Lynz cut x442...... Set up correctly it will stage the motor just past the start finish line

Thanks for the info on the VS1 setup thread. Should have checked. Just what I needed

I have a VS1 with a K&B SS bone stock, running good @ 39mph. Not the fastest for the boats in the south but handling great at that speed! I run a x440 3 blade. I will take some measurements for you if you would like. LMK

Greg,

I dont run K+Bs anymore (been over 5 years now) but i can tell you the VSI is quite at home with one hanging on the back.

My Villain S1 with a 8907 (Sport setup) would bust down and or close to 50mph.. not easy however.. with a box stock SS it would hunt down the same number much easer.

All that with a Octrua 1440 back cut 17 deg and cupped to 3.1 or 3.3.. depended on the motor..

Big Bryon has about the most lethal Villain S1 with a K+B running I know of.. its very close to 50 and he is using one of Andys X442s (very good prop)

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the input, Grim and everyone else.

BTW; my VS1 kit was very good out of the box. Nice job... TS3 is about 95% by comparison, but still good.

My last concern about the whole thing now that I have so much useful setup info is the fuel mix to use. I don't see any specialist "boat" fuel in stock down here in Canberra. Lots of car fuel...Lots.

I can work on that, though.

Cheers

I'll second that Big Bryon's rig is smoken and a **** good racer.

I finally managed to get the VS1 out on the water last Sunday..

The new K&B SX fired straight up and ran for a full tank. That was the good bit..

I did the thrust setup according to the excellent advice referred on from previous posts but, oh boy, did the beast have cavitation problems.. Did some tweaks in the field and at least managed to get it moving, but I think it's back to the drawing board, mainly on the prop I suspect.

I guess it's my own fault but I was running a Prather 215 that came with my original K&B way back when. I've got 2-blade and 3-blade Grimracer props in reserve, but I'd appreciate any advice anyone can give about cavitation on the VS1 and associated matters. Please keep in mind that getting good bits in my part of Australia always involves postage.

Cheers
