Andy it looks like there might be 2 or 3 of us that are looking at coming over for the race

3 Days sounds good to me.
Greg,

I'm tempted to do that trip too in part of a group. I'll have to organise a passport. Never been outside of Oz before! (Tasmania doesn't count, right?)

All Nitro, All Hydros!
Looking to set a firm date for this All Nitro All Hydro race. 2nd weekend of May 2013 is looking good.

Location TBA, South Georgia area.

Classes:

.21 hydro

.45 hydro

.67 hydro

.105 single hydro

Twin Fuel Hydro

What happened to scale & sport-40,, they were in your original plans, weren't they?

Yep, found it.

"We are putting a club together here in North Florida. Thinking about putting on a race. Nitro Hydros only! .21 rigger, .45 rigger, .67 rigger, Single F/X rigger, Twin Rigger, Sport .45, 1/8 Scale Unlimited.

5 quailfying rounds. Top six qualifiers run a 3 round final.

Blue Lake @ Valdosta, Ga.

Tenetive date May/June 2013.
Rick, Julian,

I talked with some 1/8 scale guys. Many of them do not run riggers, So it would be a one or two boat race for them if they have a sport 45. They suggested adding gas Thunderboat to entice them to make the race. There was serious thought about doing this, but if we add Thunderboat then we would have to add some other gas boats to help bring up the feild of thunder boats. This then escalates into more classes, which is what we are trying to move away from. Big races like the Winternats and the Fall nats are great because they draw large numbers of contestants and it is a great chance for lots of commraderie, but if you are a guy that only races 1/8 scale and sport 45 you have to sit for 3 days to race 8 heats. Not everyone wants to do that. Or you have to own and enter more boats in order to not get bored. Some can't afford to do that.

That is one of the main purposes for this race....to get in lots of racing for the individual racer without him having to bring a trailer full of boats. We want to run many heats per class to help define the most prepared and best drivers of the weekend. This reduces the "luck" factor. This is one reason for allowing back up boats. Some guys race several classes in case something bad happens to one boat, they still have boats to race. For this race we do not want someone's ultimate fate determined by some huge alligator that ate his boat. LOL

Julian, that is the reason for not running "F". There will be lots of racing for each class. We will run 5 qualifying rounds and 3 final rounds for the top qualifiers. If there are more than about 15 boats in a class we will run prelimanary finals. This would mean you will run your twin 11 times if you get all the way to the finals.
Sounds good to me..... :)

Andy I have a question so you are not going to offer F hydro ???
I have been listening to input from others. It seems like some wish to run their singles against twins, so we will probably offer Normal F hydro class.

Talked to some 1/8 Scale guys. They suggested offering Gas Thunderboat, because many of them have both. But then they will be asking about Gas Sport hydro, Gas rigger, Twin Gas rigger. Could turn out to be a really big HYDRO race that way. Thoughts? All NITRO only? Or all Hydro including gas?
Andy why not include electric hydros also along with Gas and Nitro Just make it all hydros any type.

Aaron, Andy;

Your reasoning really doesn't make alot of sense to me,,, but hey, it's your race to put on the way you see fit.

Just like every other race, advertise a minimum # of boats, if that's not met, cancel the class.

Just my opinion

Hmmm let me check if i have enough frequent flyer miles yet

were would i need to fly into ?

Greg
Jacksonville, Fla will get you in at the best price. It's a little less than a 2 hour drive (easy drive). 2013 will be a good year for our European friends to visit also....

"World Fuel Hyrdo Championships" ?

5 qualifiying rounds and 3 final rounds. Lots of racing without bringing a trailer full of boats!!!
Andy what time of the year are you thinking this might happen?
Joe, May 11 - 12, 2013. That would be Mothers Day so be sure to take the moms out to dinner the week before!
With all due respect to the dates being looked at, having a race on Mothers Day is NOT a good thing. Regardless of any kitchen passes available, that is the one weekend of the year that many wives will not go along with it. There will be racers that want to come but will not because of that. Make it one week later and more racers will show up.

All things are still considered at this point. If Mother day won't fly we can move it. In an effort to have the race in cooler weather we would opt for the first weekend in May 4-5.

That would be on my anniversary, but my wife already said it's a Go for a boat race!

There have been requests for a 3 day event. In order to get enough participation we would have to add more classes.

1/8 scale

sport 45

gas Thundeboat?

Gas sport hydro?

gas rigger ?

Twin gas rigger?

Other suggestions?

That would bring us to 11 classes total.

ALL HYDRO? What are the most popular electric classes.

Keep in mind we want to run 5 round plus 3 rounds. With an average of 18 boats per class we will get 18- six boat heats per class. That times 11 classes is 198 heats or 66 heats per day for 3 days.

That is considering only 18 boats per class. We don't want to turn anyone away that wants to race in the classes that are offered. It is preferable to have a large classes to increase the level of competition.

CD's will be experienced "Hired guns" that will not race in this event.

Sound off with your thoughts!!

Andy check with Doug Smock or Chris Harris about FE classes. They are very impressive and fast plus there are some very fast FE racers over in Europe.

Bill, By my above math we would be at 3 full days with nitro and gas hydro (11 classes total). If their is interest in a longer 4 day event we could do that. One thing we will not do is reduce the number of rounds, as the main purpose of this event is to determined the best most prepared racers, which is best done by a large number of rounds.

Trust me Andy I agree with you on the rounds as do most of the guys here in Huntsville area when ever we have a race we try really hard to get 5 rounds of racing. I like your proposed format just trying to get some more activity for your event. That's why I suggested you talk with Doug and Chris they have a good idea what FE classes would make the required entry number.

I will do my best to attend, and promote the race, in any way I can

John, For the fact that the WTC race is in the same IMPBA district and we are planning for a n IMPBA sanction, we may look at a different date, but if we look at districts there is a NAMBA district race here in Fla on May 18-19.

I don't want to conflict within the IMPBA district and probably won't do that, but there will always be a conflict with someone's race some where. Just like the WTC this is not just a district race. Racers from everywhere want to attend and therefore there will be conflicts everywhere. Racers just have to choose.

You have a PM.

Being only 5'7" that could slam dunk and was scholarship running back in Arizona I never fretted over competition stacked against me. F Hydro, 90 Hydro, Twin Hydro... Bottom line for me... I just like to compete... I'll run my 20 mono in F Hydro if that's what I had to run. I don't care... I may not be first but with the way some of these guys drive out there I know I won't be last either. Hahahaha!

The spirit of competition is simply "competition". Let's race!

For about two decades they ran the Indy Unlimited. There was only ONE class, everyone could only bring ONE boat and there was only ONE first place trophey. :)

If I thought enough Twins would show up we'd just run TWINS! A massive TWIN FUEL HYDRO FEST!!!!
