HI,

I'm thinking of changing my Gas Hurricane mono over to FE. It's 45" long.

Wondering what I would need to push this boat a decent speed.. Will eventually want to get it upgraded to over 60mph. Any Suggestions for Motor, ESC, And whatever else I might need???

Thanx, Tom

Tom,

A good combination is a Lehner 3080-8turn motor, 10S-10,000maH lipo packs, a Shulze 40-160 speed control, and you are ready to go.

My 45 inch mono (Delta Force Sniper) has a 3060/10 - 10S2P - 10,000 mAh packs - Schulze 40.160. Just shy of 67 mph. A 3080 would be just that much more fun!!

[/quote Thanx for the info Guys... That's what I'm looking for.

Where can I get these Items at a decent price?

What's a good charger that I can use at the lakeside with only 12V. available??

Thanx, Tom

Lehner motors can be gotten from Fine Design Marine. They may be out of stock and it can take a while to get them.

They also sell the Schulze ESC. Icare also sells Schulze: http://www.icare-rc.com/motor_controls_brushless.htm

For chargers, I like the Hyperion chargers. I have two of the EOS0610i-DUO:

http://media.hyperion.hk/dn/eos/

I bought the chargers and I get all my batteries from Pat at RC Lipos.com: http://www.rclipos.com/

I use all PolyRC packs. 25C are fine.

And a comment if I might. If this is your first time into FE boats I strongly recommend getting a smaller boat to start with. 10S2P set ups with monster motors and big ESCs is NOT the place you want to start.

Thanx for the info Bill..

Any suggestions on a starter boat?

If it's the speeds they run, it shouldn't be a problem. Most all of my boats run close to 60 and my rigger runs high 60's.

Just don't want to have alot tied up into Electrics as I race mostly Gas.

Thanx, Tom

No, it is not the speeds that are the issue, it is not knowing anything about electrics. There is a pretty steep learning curve. Battery types, care, use, charging. Chargers. Electronic Speed Controls (ESC) - size, type, limitations, etc. Motors too. Lots to learn. Just plugging in a 10S2P battery set up takes some doing!!

A firs FE boat should be a relatively simple (and this does not mean slow) set up in maybe the 27 to 34 inch range. Reasonable power levels, battery cost, etc. I've got a small hydro (24" H&M Viper) that runs a 4S1P set up on a Lehner 1940/8 motor that does close to 60 mph. The 2 packs in it can be had for $65 each versus $350 to $400 PER pack for a big boat. $130 versus $1,600 just in batteries!!

Honestly an Aquacraft SV27 is a great 27" mono that is cheap, easy to set up and a great FE learning platform. Mine runs just under 40 mph with no mods except using Lipos and a different prop. This is a 4S1P boat. Cheaper packs, lower cost chargers, etc. I still count my SV as one of my favorite boats to run.

You might check out some of the dedicated FE forums like Rum Runner Racing or OffShore Electrics to get more info and a better feel for what FE is all about.

Thanx Bill for making me think first before jumping in head first into Electrics..

I think I should hold off on the Hurricane right now.

I fond an Aeromarine Hydro which is 29" long I could use.

What would you suggest for a Motor? Battery Packs?ESC? Charger?

Thanx, Tom

Sounds like their Sport .21 hydro. The answer to your question is really how much money do you want to spend??

As far as the details, I'm not up on that hull size and type, so you might be better off asking that question one of the dedicated FE forums I suggested above.

Here are two boats I have that might help guide you.

My 24" hydro has a Lehner 1940/8 (~1,950 rpm/volt = Kv). It has a Schulze 105 ESC (no longer available) and runs 4S1P pack (PolyRC 3700 cells). It runs high 50's.

My 32 inch mono (Delta Force Storm) is set up with a Nemesis 10XL (going to put a 9XL in it soon) and uses 4S2P 5,000 mAh packs and a Castle Creations Hydra 120 ESC. It runs in the high 40s right now. With the 9XL it will be in the low 50's.

You may not be able to get a 2P set up in the hydro. And in case that means nothing to you, check this site out to get info on what the S and P means:

Hope that helps.

One other thing to know. Generally you will get shorter run times compared to nitro and especially compared to gas. A sport set up can run 4 to 6 minutes while an aggressive race set up might only get you 2 minutes of run time. It's a very fast 2 minutes however.

On my Sport 21 hull I will be running a Neu 1515 1Y motor with 4s lipo. As far as a charger goes buy a big one one time and you won't have to worry about upgrading later. I would by the Hyperion DUO charger, it will charge up to 12s lipo at 360 watts.

I've read all good responses. They have you headed in the correct direction.

If this is the case, may I suggest looking at the swap shop area's of certain forums.

There are always good boats being sold for 1/2 of what it would cost new.
