I have the packs but need some female connectors for them so they would work for that purpose. I usually change the one on the unit to female then the males that come on the packs plug right in.

Your Voltron GPS still has a male on it, correct?

My Voltron has a female on it

Oh cool, that is great. Female on the unit is the way to go.

The male they come with for use in a spare channel isn't user friendly for powering from a battery. If you swap a female onto a battery then you have to make a male charge cable anyhow might as well put it on the unit.

I do have Life 800mah packs for it.
