Dose the newer radio systems antenna of today need to be exposed outside of radio box? Would like to have a cleaner look an just keep antenna installed in radio box

Using a Futaba R603FF

It usually works if you have a wood radio box, however if you have a carbon anywhere the antennae end the signal strength will go down dramatically. Regardless of the construction I always recommend to get the end of the antennae out of the radio box on any boat.

The FF only has a single external antennae I believe to getting it out of the box is more critical compared to other dual antennae receivers.

It is best to at least have the same vertical polarization(last inch of wire for the receiver)of the antenna's in the same plane as the transmitter.

Maybe install a antenna tube mount and a 2" tube in the lid and it should be very clean.

Many have run the FF and FS receivers is the box without issues most are even laid down flat so you can probably get away with it.

Set your throttle failsafe for a idle and drive it out for a range check on the water and know you should be safe within 50% of the range you lost it at. 50% safety net should keep you in control.

You can buy longer antennas for the 603 receivers from Tower. You have to call them and order them by phone since they are not on the website. Their guys at Hobby Services will know what you want right away. There is a YouTube video showing how to install it. Pretty simple really.
