i have used fail safes of my cars and trucks and they saved me a ton of money on runaway's but i mean boats dont have brakes to apply liek on a car if the signal goes bad and the failsafe kicks in so would they be worth it to just slow them to an idle or is there a way you can make it have a kill switch or somthin, Thanks darren

Darin,

As Tim stated, set it so the throttle goes to idle or past. It's possible the motor will stall out when left at idle too long. Which is a good thing.. While having a fun run, I've seen boats hit shore at top speed.. There's no way to warn everyone around the lake to get out of the way. Even seen a boat end up almost stuck in a car once. This boat just missed the car owner by a few feet..

I have heard that people set them at a idle or high idle.

I myself, feel better to know if i go out of range or loose signal, that its going to shut off. So i have it where the carb is closed all the way.

My gas boat will keep running, so i set them all the same way. To DIE OUT when out of range.

If you want to save your boat...a failsafe is a must. I set mine to close the carb completely and turn out left. It works to use the momentum left to bring the boat out of the race lanes.

(helps keep pecker tracks off of the boat and save the paint job)

as a begginer i have lost control of my boats a few times and the only things that have saved them form major damage is the fail safe. but remember to keep an eye on the battery terminal as that was the cause of my last problem. battery corrosion in the terminal. not a good sight on the lake in canberra of my boat going round and round and round and round and round and going in any direction it wanted.........

i would spend the money as a safe bet if it works than good... if you don't get it and you crash than you will wish you bought it early.....

I've just bought a SJ smart failsafe at a very good price and it's tiny. It's basicly just a short lead with a little cicuit board with the goodies on it. I haven't installed it yet, waiting for my new hull to arrive, but I think it would work well on anything as far as size or weight is concerned. ;D

Thanks Jaso but I have no idea what SJ stands for and I cant seem to find one on the net. Where did you get it?

Don ???

Don,

I went search'n on e-bay one day for a failsafe unit. Came across a seller by the name of CRAZYEYES! ... Didn't really know the brand they were selling, but for $19.99 buy now, seemed a good deal. However, watch out for this seller... Shipping is high ($10 for this little tiny unit) and it'll be 3 weeks before they ship. Also, it appears they sell items that are on backorder.. It's all plainly stated in the sale, but look at the feedback....

Don, Just to let you know I'm in Australia so my supplier won't be much help to you but anyway I got it from Hobby supplies (Tony Grinter). He is the importer of CMB engines and specialises in fast boat bits. If you go to the AMPBA site in Oz he has a link on the links page.

Don't know if this is of any help? ???

I just got a couple of the OFNA failsafes. THere real small, and light blinks when on.

I took some clear heat shrink and shrinked over it to keep it water proof. THey seem to be doing well,

they dynamites SUCK after they get wet.
