Ditto. Give it a whack that cocks the insert and it will pop the piece out of the taper it is stuck in.

k&b collets have a steel insert, no shoulder, tapered & slotted on both ends. never had a bad/untrue or stuck one. still running the same one in my jae after 3 years. only issue i've ever had was my fault. didn't get the cable in ALL the way, the insert split because it was unsupported on the engine end.

Throw away the brass insert and use the ss one.

Got I out. Took a few good whacks. It was not going to come out axially that is for sure. I'll use it again. It actually seems relatively true. I'll use it again. It worked well today on the sport boat.
