Hi All

My Son Inlaw bought me a Nitro Hammer for Christmas and as soon as I started it she over reved and broke a rod and piston.

I need to get a new one, or if some one knows the center to center length of rod I can make my own.

It's a .15

I need to fix before he ask's about it." LOL "

TIA

The rods are cheap to buy and shipping is cheap and fast also from towers.

Replace the retaining clips while your at it. ;)

We have 4 of those little boats locally and they will take a hammering .pardon the pun.

There are lots of mods to do to them on another forum..

thank you Dan H was wondering that alsoOS #s good then or is it Aquacraft then

any more info

Marty
The Aquacraft .18 (Miss Vegas) and the .15 (Nitro hammer) are made by OS for Aquacraft.

The .18 has 1.25hp and the .15 has .9hp.

The OS .18 cvr and cvr-m have 1.35hp

That's a first. I've heard of the cranks breaking at the rear of the intake port but no rod failures yet.

Hey Ron

The crank did not break the the lower end of the rod broke, The engine was super tight at tdc it would lock up trying to start with pull cord.

I took the engine out of boat and removed plug and put some oil in it and kept turning engine with starting rope until it freed up.

I reinstalled engine and it started up and ran about 15 sec. and started to die and I bliped the throttle , and the rest is history.

I suspect the rod bushing was also to tight.

P.S

Thanks everyone for the info the parts are on the way.

Prolly should break the motor in with it running instead of pulling it through with the rope only. The big end prolly was tight but the heat from the motor running would have helped. You may have noticed that the piston was not ringed. That is because these motors rely on a tapered fit to sustain compression. We want that near lockup at or near TDC. Break in your next one while it is burning fuel and don't let it run too cold. It needs to build up a bunch of heat for everything to set right.

Ron the big end of the rod scattered in my AQ .18 too. It was after break in and in mid air (over rev back flip). I think a new rod was $7. The "big end" is the same as the wrist pin dia.. Thought that was interesting.

I have broken 2 cranks and my buddy 1 on the aqub .15.If you take the crank out and work the intake port in the crank with a dremel, rounding the cornres of the port and smoothening any sharp edges the broken crank issue will go away.

While your at it if you make the opening in the header match the exhaust port on the engine and make the inside of the header as smooth as possible that will make it work a tad better as well

We never had any problem with the rods.We ruined some P/Liners and cranks but the rods held up ..

A real nice "next" boat from the hammer is the vegas if the water is usully cam to 1" waves.

They have no water in the radio box issues,The engines are much easier to tune, much faster and dependable.

I/We really like them.

Good luck

Terry

Hi Watercadet

I wasn't trying to break it in, I was trying to get it loose enough to turn over with the rope.

It was so tight it would lock up at TDC, I under stand the workings of none ringed engines, I have been building engines since 1975. and I thank you and everyone else for jumping in to help.

Here’s some photos of 2 of my engines and my latest project.

Thanks Again Everyone

Hey Watercadet

Thats ok, under my Avatar it says i'm a Newbie how were you to know.

Now I have to figure out what to do with the Radial when I finish it, I just started building it Oct 20th for the h**l of it.

It will probably sit on a shelf and gather dust ( LOL ).

Thanks Again
