Ron put a great deal of thought in to that design. I bet it will never blow off. Keep up the cool ideas.

Bob
This boat is a design from Hall/ Geraghty/Truex/Zaker. The cowl is just roughed in,needs to be completed. Boat came in @ 3lbs 6 ounces less fuel.
Doesn't look too dissimilar to the Japanese riggers. Very cool too see something out of the ordinary! Thanks for sharing the pics!
EXACTLY
Should be AWESOME in less than ideal water too ;)

G-10 skins and foam core. only wood in the boat is inside of one sponson to give the turn fin blind nuts something to sink in to. Verdict is still out on the materials. the G10 is obviously strong enough, but heavier. the 3mm pvc is about as light as regular 1/8 ply but not quite as rigid. I love the no painting part. I'm going to keep looking for other materials to try out.... any ideas?
Wow Tom,

Thats way different to your normal designs... does it need some off season testing down under where it's summer time? Hint Hint!

Tim.
YES it does! you ready to build? i'll send ya my next revision in design! it's should be done very soon.

Ready to build? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I'm only just putting the finishing touches on the 45 boat! Just waiting for the engine to return from a European Vacation before it gets wet. B) ^_^

yea.... ive been there! see my materials thread to build faster!

I think this thread has been hijacked.... sorry mark! I can delete these if you want....

what is "strut assist?? any pics?
It's just a ski under the strut and stuffing tube. I will try and post some pics of the my new 20 boat.

Ron:

The CG is very far to the rear, kind of like Andy's Eagle is. It is very interesting that with the strut assist you can carry even more prop than normal even with a rearward CG. That indicates that the pad is really effective. Will be interesting to see how it reacts to roughed up water. Sometimes a strut assist like that will create hop on roughed up water. Would be funny to revisit strut pads after all these years.... Remember that the Crapshooter had that in the 70's. Seems that all things go 360 in our hobby.

"Would be funny to revisit strut pads after all these years...."

Revisit?? Hasn't the Eagle SG's & SGX's been visiting this for a number of years now? Don't think it ever really went away.

And Marty you are right about the possible hop in rough water. The center shoe, ski, pad, strut assist or whatever the latest buzz word is it can act like a ski ramp.... and sometimes it's more than just a hop. Been there, done that........ watched it go under. :(

On the other hand when conditions are right, it can be very beneficial. B)

I have seen a really cool variation of a ride pad that Marty thought of :) Not to assume; but I am betting that would qualify as a revisitaton :) :p

Oh I don't doubt that for a second with all the ideas runnin' around inside Marty's head. :)

Ron;

the Japanese designs are ment to be run on VERY rough waters. when we were stationed there 6 yrs. ago, i found out that due to the gov't regulations and such, no powered boats of any kind are allowed to be run on fresh water lakes, ponds and such. That is why the Japanese run theirs on the coasts. they GOT TO BE VERY Stable.

and your design is very reminiscent of the ones they run. I got some pictures somewhere, i got to find where i stuck them.

it was great to see what the other nations run when i was in the Air Force. (now we both are retired (wife and myself) military)

The placement of the front sponsons is different than the the CMD designs, this one does not "go under". No hop and no stab.

Yes Carl ,I have seen many videos with these designs running on very rough water. Much rougher than we run on anywhere that I have been.Yes it's stable.

I balances @39 percent. If you look at the pic,the balance is on the first " N" in Odonnell. Seems like the cg does not matter much on this.Weird huh.

Ron:

The CG does matter, but all the components must be well matched. Different characteristics for different hull designs and types. The extreme of this is the Canard which I spent a lot of time with in the earl 80's. THAT is a rear cg boat and difficult to deal with. I have moved to a VERY forward CG approach and I like that a lot. Lots of advantages and fewer disadvantages.

Can't wait to see it run and hopefully get to race you. It sure is sleak looking....
