Is there a good spot to relocate the water pick-up on a lawless 3.5 leg? I just got a 1715-17 from Mark S and with the high rake it is hitting the water pick-up.

I could shorten the pick-up and that may take care of it. How short can I go?

Thanks- Marc

The water pickup on the Lawless is huge anyways, when I visited Fred Howe he said you can raise it or shorten it. Maybe it'd be good to have a second opinion here though. Out of curiosity, what pro-shaft are you using?

You could cut it so it just clears the cav plate and still get sufficient water cooling.

That's what wanted to hear. I'll give it a try this weekend.

Thank you-- Marc
When you run it, Make a couple of laps and bring it in and before you even pick it up out of the water reach down and feel the head to see how hot it is. If it's okay then repeat again after 4 or 5 laps. You should be able to hold the head for at least 3 seconds. It should be fine. Never hurts to sneak up on it though. Heat can be the best thing ever if you have just the right amount.

Carl,

Not sure if you know Marc is running an electric set up.

Hope all is well in Alabama,

Mark Sholund

I cut it just below the cav plate and it works fine.

Now I just have to get the set-up for the new 1715 prop right....
