Ok time to learn. I'm building a FE 1/8 Scale Hydro . Is it ok to use a teflon liner inside the stuffing tube. I see where the Nitro and Gasser guys just use 1/4 in stuffing tube with an oiler set up on it . Can anyone explain the benefits of one over the other.

The inner stuffing box tube the cable is in is 5/16ths I.D. The outer tube is 11/32". The Teflon is a matter of preference. Most of the people not using it think there's less friction.

So if i'm understanding correctly I'll need to order the teflon tube that fits over the 1/4" shaft then 5/16" and then the 11/32" tube which will be more permanent ( epoxied to the hull).

Really I would just forget the Teflon altogether. Run the cable inside the 5/16ths and the 5/16ths through the 11/32nds. The outer tube is glued to the hull and the 5/16ths to the 11/32. When you are putting the boat back together after paint you just put a little 1/2" smear of epoxy on the 5/16ths and then slide it up into the 11/32 to the final position. If you ever need to remove the 5/16ths you can just put a little heat on it and it will slide right back out.

If you want to PM me your email I can send you an article (with photos) showing exactly how to make this set up.

Welcome to the hobby. It's a lot of fun with a lot of very nice people.

Since both Scott and I are members of R/C Unlimiteds, I just ask him what I need to know and call it good

I noticed on another forum it looks like you may have built a Miss Elam 1/8 scale. Do you have a thread for the build and or a lot of pictures of it that I can reference as I build mine.

Actually, no. I didn't build it, got it third hand from another member of R/C Unlimiteds more or less ready to run. I did have to install an engine and radio as well as do some other minor things to it, that's been about it. Just out of curiosity, which year boat are you doing and where are you located?

Many of the present day boats are based on the T-5 or the T-6 hulls. I know the 2007 Oberto/Miss Madison was a combination of design features from the T-6, the 2001 Elam Plus and things crew chief Michael Hansen thought would work. He must have been correct since the boat has 5 national championships to it's credit, over half with Steve David in the cockpit

Here is my first attempt at 1/8. Actually my first attempt at a boat
2006 Elam white back up boat. Getting ready for paint

Andy, are you going to put rear shoes on it or are they just not visible in those pictures? Here's a shot of my 2000 version in the HOK neon orange and Coca-Cola white taken several years ago:

They’re framed and sheeted ,just not visible
