To All,

Our new club (approx. 35 members) held our first race this weekend. The race was well attended by racers from NY, PA and Canada. Many of our members are new to competitive racing and how a race is run, but the event was fun for all with very few mishaps / missed calls, etc. If you haven't read the background on our pond, check out the posts under clubs and ponds "Canandaigua NY Test Pond". Trophies were provided on "marble-like" plaques with photos of the winner and their winning boat on the trophy. We hope you will consider coming to one of our upcoming races, check out our web site at www.vpmcobras.com/stonypond.htm.

pretty sweet deal you guys have there! Sounds like a good turnout as well. Props to you guys and your club!

The Stony Pond is a FANTASTIC place to race. For the first race,it was run as well or better than any I have attended. KUDOS to everyone. More room than I thought and the drivers stand is great. Thanks Craig and all others who were responsible. THANKS Tom

Great weekend racing, a huge win for CNY The higher drivers stand really helped out with the depth of the back straight away. Good driving everyone.

Thanks guys! Great weekend for sure!

Buoy system works perfect! Only had to replace 1 buoy for the whole race. Saves a lot of time. These are the 7.5" float trap buoys from the fishing supply stores. The key is to weigh them with a 9" long, 3/4" piece of steel pipe that is hanging on a 4 foot long rope. The heavier weight gets 1/4 of the buoy in the water and most of the time the boats just driver over the buoys with no damage to boat or buoy.

And the high driving stand makes for some clean racing. No one hit our back bank. The back chute is 100 feet wide. Total length of pond is 700 feet. Front chute is 90 feet wide.

AND if you get a trophy at Stony Pond it means something. Neil brought home 2, good job Neil! We only offer 1 trophy for a class of 3 boats, 2 trophies for a class of 4-6 boats, 3 trophies for a class of 7-9 boats, 4 trophies for a class of 10-13 boats, 5 trophies for a class of 14-17 boats, and so on.... No meaningless trophies and more trophies for the large classes. That's what the SCCA does in Solo 1 auto racing. Other clubs should follow suit in IMPBA.
