Joern,
The 67 OB project was a personal favor to me as the US Nova distributor, as they are aware I am a stout supporter of all classes, and would really like to see the tunnel classes continue to grow since the decline of K&B production. They could only go down that path if we kept the cost as low as possible to test the market, as they aslo did with the 21 and 46 outboard powerheads. The 67 OB market, since they initially made this engine available, has really taken off. We had enough 67 outboard tunnels to meet the last several major races, just not soon enough to convince the organizers to add to the class listing. Unfortunately, the short stub 67 DD crank is not holding up to the inertia of the 67 flywheel and the constant torque of the starter when starting the engine. We are going to need a full length larger threaded shaft crank. Until the volume gets to where a complete crank production is warranted, I am working with Gabe Clegg at StumpFab to come up with a short term solution that we can add to every 67 outboard engine we import as well as all of those currently in the field, at no cost to them. Everyone wants this engine that runs that class, and I know it will single handily help grow this class, we just need to get a rock solid engine to make it happen. Until we get to that point, Novarossi has temporarily pulled the engine from their website pending what we can accomplish here and what they can accomplish in Italy to address the weak point at minimal costs. Stay tuned. Thank you.

We will make it happen. Like any new engine, bugs will be worked out. Thanks to Ron for stepping and pushing to get this class going.

Thank you Gabe for your help as well. We will figure this out so we can keep the class growing and volumes large enough such that Nova can invest more funds to make this a final factory offering.

WOW Ron Thanks so much for your efforts on keeping this class going

Looking forward to hearing more about your progress

THANK YOU

Thanks Paul. Stay tuned. Thank you as well for offering boats to run this class as it had started dying out over the years with lack of available power-plants or boats.

Tunnel Boaters,
Here is an update on the flywheel shaft breakage issue on the 67 OB Engine. Thank you.

Nova 67 Outboard Engine current and future Owners:
I am pleased to make the following announcement. Novarossi has not stopped production of the 67 OB, but put production on hold so we could get a chance to correct the shaft breakage issue under the fly wheel. As you know, Nova was trying to use the same crank as the 67 direct drive, but the extra force of starting on smaller shaft end of the crank that was nit intended for the additional forces, has caused a breakage issue. I teamed up exclusively with Gabe Clegg at Stumpfab and we now have a kit to fix the issue. As a part of our agreement, this kit is only available exclusively through Novarossi Marine USA. There are two options that will be offered. Have you run your outboard yet? If it’s still brand new in the box I will provide the kit at no charge, just email me at [email protected] for return authorization, and ship the engine to me. We will install the kit and return the engine to you. If you have run the engine, send me your crank and flywheel I will take care of most of the cost of the kit and we are only charging a flat fee of $50. This will get you a modified crank and fly wheel, and new collet. The class is really starting to grow and will actually be held at the IMPBA and Namba Internats this year. Because it was a new project initiated by Novarossi Marine USA and a new product offering as with the 21 and 46 predecessors, Nova didn’t want to invest a lot of money into the product until we knew it was going to take off and hopefully grow to levels of where it used to be years ago and beyond. More tunnel manufacturers are coming out with 60 size tunnels that will make the class become even more popular over time. Just look over the two options above and let me know what option you choose and let me know. I am thankful to work with a company like Novarossi IT that stands behind their products and customer base to the levels I have witnessed over the years. I have posted a couple of pics below for reference showing the new 8mm shaft extension modification. This kit will be installed on all new engines going forward exclusively from Novarossi Marine USA. Novarossi IT is also looking at a production change to incorporate the stronger shaft extension on their new production cranks at some point in 2020. Thank you.

One additional note to the above, I will also work on building stock on the new flywheels (modified stock 67 DD flywheel) and 67 OB cranks. The collets are the stock 67 DD collets as well. Thank you.
