Close-But no Cigar!

Actually, the sponsens are from a mini .20 Crapshooter built by Marty

Davis in the late 70s, although, I cut down the rears a bit and added ride plates to the fronts. The tub I built is 23 1/4" long, 3'' wide and

comes in at 3# ready to run.

Don... :eek:SAWEEEEEEEET  !!! Awesome, Dude! Have you run it yet? What prop? How did you attach the front sponsons?

TOO COOL!

Propjockey:

The CF tubes are secured inside the aluminum tubes by drilling

and taping holes through one side of the tubes only and securing

with 4/40 X 3/16" machine screws. This is done at the sponsins

and the center of the tub so that the sponsons and CF tubes are

removable. The rear sponsons are removable and adjustable.

The paint is still drying on the cowling and radio box cover,

the temp. here in INDY is 10 degrees and I don't even know

if it will float yet.

The prop you see in the picture is a prather 215 S/S but I really

don't know what to start with. Maybe a V937.

I really did a lot of guessing on the set up. However I did set it

on the floor the other day and my dog ran into the back of it. ;D

Thanks for the complements. I've been following your posts

also and what you'r doing looks great!

Don

looks real nice don..... whos hardware are you using?

I got that same engine.... have you tried yours yet?

Don,

GREAT looking rigger. I love a good clean, nicely laid out boat.

Gotta get my camera back so i can show you guys what im workin on

Tom:

Ya,I know you have the same engine and flywheel. That's why I

bought mine.

The manifold is an Associated, comes in several colors and costs

about $10.00. Strut is a "reversed" Octura. Rudder Blade is

a Hughey I took off an old electric boat. I machined the rudder

and strut brackets, motor mount and pipe mount on a mini mill.

May be spring before I take it out!

Thanks to all of you for the input while I was desigining it.

Don

Well I finally got the cowl and radio box cover painted and I just

gotta post one more picture. "Sure wish I had some flames". ;D

looking good Don! it sure would be fun to have an "A" hydro race sometime!

I might have to figure out how to get the flames on my .21 when it gets ready so they match! It is cool! 8)

Don,

Very nice work on that boat, good attention to small details. I was wondering if you would put that OPS in it and let us know how it goes.

-MikeP

MIke,

That OPS belongs to the Crapshooter you see in the background.

Marty Davis, who owned Crapshooter boats at the time, with a

little help from me, built that boat in about 1978. It was a .67

in a .40 hull and we called it a sprint boat. It was extremely quick

on acceleration and speed down the straight but you had to let

off for a second and let the boat settle before throwing the boat

into the corner with full throttle. A couple of years later we went

to a little longer sponsons and set back curved turn fin. The boat

was fantastic thru the turns but I think it lost a little speed on the

straight. The engine is a John Ackerman custom. I still run the

boat every once in a while for fun and it's still faster than I can

drive. And my knees still shake.

Don,

Would you mind posting some pictures of that Crapshooter.

-MikeP

MIKE: Sorry it took so long. My disc drive was down!

THis first picture is kinda dark but more the true color of the boat.
