Been a while, figured I would update.
Just waiting on my chute and this beast is about ready to fly, Will be a dual deploy flight with no drogue chute and I added a 2nd AV Bay in the nosecone to house a GPS for tracking.

Ray , I will have to dig you up a pic of the USF club rocket- 25ft long 2 stage-8inch diameter 65+lbs.

Keep up the good work man!

Grim

Thanks Z - The plan is to first flight in October at our 2 day launch, Thinking I-211 / should put me close to 5k . Of course all the stars have to line up first . Really wanted to go to Kansas this year with the crew to LDRS and cut it loose - but its just not in the cards for this year. So I will fly the field I have - so to speak. ;) Im gonna fly it Dual deploy / drogue less on an RRC3 - 60inch main at 1000ft and GPS tracking.

Super.. have you simmed it with that motor.. I suspect its going to be good.. (What is the speed at the end of the rail?)

Grim

still working on loading everything into O/R for a proper sim, but very loosely based on a nearly identical length / weight rocket Rick flies , Its gonna come off pretty hard. What sucks is ,the model is pretty new to MadCow and there are not many O/R files I can use and alter the exact specs. to match my build. I doesnt help that Im not the greatest a building a new O/R flight profile.I can send ya a bunch of specs if your bored :p

Congrats on the great job at the Nats btw.

So my "test bed" rocket -so to speak- is almost done. I built it with the intention of rehearsing some electronic dual deployment before the big dance on my L-2 attempt with the Rogue . Its cheaper that way if I'm wrong :p -
So I build a 3 inch MadCow Sport -X , electronic dual deployment - 38mm powered bird to cut my teeth on. Will be flying it on Gorilla "research" motors. If all goes well in Sept for the first couple flights- we will move on to the TRA Level 2 Cert. with the 54mm powered Rogue 4
I built it to strong to take a little punishment - I plan on wearing out some 38mm motors ....

your going to have a bunch of fun with that one...

I do believe your right Z
I really wasnt thrilled with the amount of room left in the upper to house my main chute- I want to fly at least a 30inch chute-
So rather than adding a longer upper section , I cut off the bottom of the N/C shoulder and put a bulk plate and eye bolt deeper inside the N/C.
Gained 4.5 inches for the recovery gear - and yes, its got a butt load of epoxy and JB Weld holding it in -
Stronger is better right - :p

Finished up my stretched 3inch Sport -X , set up for dual deploy and a 38mm motor . should be a fun sport rocket. Even built a spiffy little stand to make life easier :D

Looking good Andy. A nice sized rocket/motor diameter. Not too expensive to light off. Flexible enough to shoot high when the weather is nice or low when windy or the weather is marginal. I have a Madcow Twitch that I converted to a DD (before the DD version was available).

Mike you couldnt have been more right - its such a sweetheart on a i- 3g/38mm and D/D recovery.
I flew it twice this weekend and it went straight as an arrow , did drougless at apogee and a 36inch main at 700ft. It was perfect for our field.

WOW.. very cool.. ROCKET MAN!

Grim

And to think Mike Z , Bill "Windex" Gibson set the hook - and you reeled me to the boat some 7/8 years ago .
Im pretty sure I was totally screwed the first time I flew the PS2 Argent that you gifted me on a G40 !!!! :p
Still have it and it still flies like a champ, just need a new transition- it wore out
I have my 54mm 4 inch all glass L-2 bird ready , Im just not quite ready to pull the trigger and fly it yet,
Im still learning DD and packing my own charges and putting together motors by myself - people have ZERO IDEA how much goes into it .
I'm still learning to walk so to speak .

Your quickly becoming a leader in this and your comfort level is going up.. I FULLY expect your L2 will be EPIC!

Grim

Working on a better way to store my rockets- thinking I nailed it, now to clean out the rest of the work room :p
