McVeigh ran with the Michigan Militia, and with a military background he went with a IED, just like the first World trade Center attack.
It matters not his background, the point was how simple it was even then to acquire the necessary components. With the added power of the internet it's there for anyone, just Google fertilizer bomb for example to see how easily anyone with a minimal grade school education can do it. However let's get the facts straight- McVeigh was not a member of the Michigan Militia (or any militia for that matter) and his rather brief 3 1/2 year stint in the military was as a gunner on a Bradley Fighting Vehicle in Iraq, he honed his bomb making skills starting off with small pipe bombs and progressed from there, all being self taught. He also said before and during his trial that had he known there was a day care center in the Murrah building he would have chosen a different target..........

And another of Einstein's quotes far more relevant in today's times - “Blind belief in authority is the greatest enemy of truth.” ;)

We certainly are going to have a lot of servicemen and women looking for work as we draw down from Afganistan. It surely would be cheaper to deploy them as a school security force than what were spending to keep them in countries who don't want us there. If this type of security is needed how bout they walk around campuses it a suit & tie like a teacher rather than a uniform with weapons not necessarily in plain sight. Shoulder holster. Wouldn't hurt if they randomly took a bus ride to and from school. I guess if the airlines get sky-cops a school bus deserves attention. Still not the world I like to see. Julian could keep his time in towards a retirement.

Not a bad idea at all Mic and this can be done for a while as it will take that long to undo how we have as a society desensitized our children and young adults to death and killing. It will take a full generation or two to turn that back around..........

I want to know why Homeland security just bought the largest supply of amo in history.I thinck we are spending to much time on the little things and not the big picture. With the goverment. They have been traing fourin troups and private security for a couple of years to supress us the us people. Why?

This is so true..

The Authority figure can be the first to weild the preverbial Knife in the back to the people, for there own personal gain.

Anyone can phisicaly do a deed for either good or evil, yet it is always up to the person's morals as to which way they lean towards in the long run.

Mental illness is a very broad subject and is used too much in these issues. Stats state that about 1 in 5 have a mental issue be it stress , depression or fears of some sort. Take a hammer or hacket for example we can all use these items in a swinging motion yet it is our morals that dictate the right way of using them.

( hitting a piece of wood vs hitting someones else with them ).

No matter where you go in the World we all have the capability of using different sticks for the same good or distructive purpuse.

No matter what happens human nature will always rock the preverbial boat.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but I just thought I would post a pic of my newly refinished AK47. This is a Vietnam war version. 5.56 mm (.223) . A friend brought it back from the war for me. I added the Simmons scope. Can't wait to try it out on some bothersome coyotes.004.JPG

Looks nice Bob! Did you fabricate the scope mount? It looks very nice and low profile!

Hope you have the ammo already!

I bought the mount. It replaces the original top cover and bolts on. I have plenty of ammo...lol

I think this guy sums it up best..

COLUMBINE STUDENT'S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER !!

Guess our national leaders didn't expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness.. The following is a portion of the transcript:

"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,

Your words are empty air.

You've stripped away our heritage,

You've outlawed simple prayer.

Now gunshots fill our classrooms,

And precious children die.

You seek for answers everywhere,

And ask the question "Why?"

You regulate restrictive laws,

Through legislative creed.

And yet you fail to understand,

That God is what we need!

"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"

- Darrell Scott

I was going to stay out of this whole debate, but after watching that video, all I can say is don't believe everything you see on the net. Biased editing from either side of the argument is wrong and does nothing towards reaching some agreed solution.

Oh Craig, for sure!! Just an interesting view is all. Everyone has to be smart enough to make there own opinions....

I was going to stay out of it as well but if your old man likes blowing up "bothersom coyotes" with an AK47 you might be getting mixed signals. It all starts in the home guys. Gun control can't hold a candle to a well functioning two parent family. Parenting is about the only thing in life you have total control over with a payoff second to none. Sorry Bob, I don't mean to offend either but we need to go back to basics and be more accountable for our actions. Starting in the home is the only way to fix violence and aggresion. Problem is... It will take more than our lifetime to fix. All I hope is that I started things rolling in the right direction.

Hard for me to belive how many replys my original post generated. I know everyone has their own opinion, And i respect the opinions of EVERYONE. I don't give a rat's arse about high capacity magazines or assult rifles. Is our govertment or our states Or counties going to do anything about the NUT CASES? Armed security guards in schools could be funded easily thru a small increase in property taxes. I do not have children in school but would pay a little more on my property taxes to ensure the safety of others children.
