I was rooting through some of my old boat mags, IMPBA stuff and came across this.

You'll see names like Driver, Hallam and Davis in this one.

MANY people that I consider/considered good friends. Many of them not with us anymore. It is correct that not many are still enjoying the hobby.

If I remember correctly Tim Ries custom made the trophies that year. They were absolutely beautiful....outrigger hydros carved out of wood. The F hydro one was used as a national IMPBA award for a number of years.

Wow, does that bring back memories, I'd just come back racing after a few years off when Kathy was sick and just doing props for a lot of these guys. The Logghe's (Gene & Ron) were the ones who got me going again. FYI, Gene Logghe just had a stroke a few weeks ago, I haven't gotten an up date recently but hope he's doing good. We flew heli's together for many years. Thanks Jim!!!!!!

John

Imagine all those hydros together for a one day race, man how things have changed...

wow. so few names I recognize. Chris Capaldi, John Beardslee, Jerry Betke, Mike Hallam. I see John Bridge but I know him from Unlimiteds Detroit, and not from R/C racing.

It is so cool to see the high entries in some classes. Forty entries in D hydro. I remember competing against forty-eight .40 hydros at the 1978 NAMBA nats.

I don't know how Ted Dudley got in there, but he's a geezer too. Tim Ries is still working on boats. Him and Cal Phipps race a 7 litre, and work on the U-27 down south.
