Chine Angles On Riggers

To all boat designers: Are angled chines needed for riggers or can you run vertical sides ok for top performance? Thanks Dan

The JAE boats run vertical side sponsons and don't have any issues from them.

I have a 90 rigger with vertical sides on the front & back sponsons with flat plane bottoms....turns on a dime at high speed with no problems. Goodbye angled chines!

You might want to do vertical sides, but the lower outside edge of the sponson can be a non trip. Only a small section like 1/2" wide, so the sponson width for example is 3-1/2" but the actual riding width is 3-1/8"

So fast cat I posted a thread below this one, what are your thoughts about having tops of sponsons parallel to waterline or not? And how does that relate to changing the planing angle or AOA

I tried parallel tops didn't notice nothing.

So do you angle them down to have the rear higher than the front tip? Any why would you do it?

Aaron....I have tried flat tops... angled tops & have not noticed NOTHING in performance...I only angle the tops for looks. Things I have noticed was AOA on the bottom of sponsons & the CG.
