What is more popular, fiberglass or wood

1/8th scale racers mostly epoxyglass, T boats are split even, wood or glass i think.

They may like EG in your area Phil, but in mine it seems that there are many more wood boats in both sizes. I myself don't care for a glass boat as they usually won't take the big hit a wood boat will.

If you don't crash you don't need to worry about which one takes a bigger hit. I was once told Boeing doesn't design an airplane to hit the ground! I have run both and have seen some wicked crashes and the wood boats usually have more visible damage. Both are no fun to fix.

Very true, but I'll still stick with a wood hull
