Just wondering what fibreglass hulls are being used for electric 1/8 scale and how you find them performance wise? Does anyone run timber and fiberglass hulls, what are they pros / cons for both types? Thanks for any advice.

I know some buy glass scale hulls from here, http://www.rcboatcompany.com

Not sure who else that makes them at this point. I also know that Mike L makes wood kits for electric power. As for which is better or pros and cons, can't answer that one since I run nitro.

What I do know is that I prefer a wood hull due to them being easier for me to repair as needed

The problem I have found with the vast majority of 'glass hulls, especially later turbine replicas, is that they lack enough interior depth up front for the large packs these boats require. Both of my FE scales are kits from Mike Luszcz and I had no issues with getting my lipos well up into the nose of each one.

I've got the Velasco molds. The two I've seen run with FE power have been impressive.

ML Boats timber all the way Mikes boats are awesome have a 8255 which is a rock solid boat and is very fast. But that is coming from a woodpecker AKA Carpenter.

Gday Ron

Here Is one of Henry's hulls .

Great Hulls, super nice layup.

I was originally going to build it back when I was Intending on racing but that's no longer going to be the case.

I also have a second cowl setup to make the 1976 Miss Bud.

Jerry Muro,

Any chance of some pics of the ML 8255 and what set up you are running in it- motor, esc, batteries etc

Raptor 347/ Darin Jordan,

Would love to purchase a Brian hull but the freight from USA to Australia would be as expensive as the hull itself unless someone knows how to get these hulls to Australia cheaper then my previous quotes from 1/8th hull manufacturers.

thanks brad like the real boat in your avatar better but that 8th scale looks great...

wonder how hard it would be to make that hull FE?

Hey Brian,

Beautiful work on the CF hull. I assume you have the molds for the Revision 2 hull and both cowls? Do you also have the Gas Sport hull with 7704 cowl?

I see you added a ledge to the hull deck opening. Did you modify the cowls also, or as they as they were when Henry owned the molds??

These are fine running hulls in 1/8th Nitro Scale and a viable option to other epoxy glass hulls available on the market. John Borden has all the Steve Muck molds also and was making epoxy glass hulls a few years ago. I have not hear of their availability for a while now, but I'll ring John's bell and post findings here when I learn something solid.

Here is a pic of Don Maher's MHR 7207 Velasco hull. CHEERS !!! Bob

I have molds for both cowls and hull versions. I also have the gas sport mold, but the cowl is very gas sportish. The lip detail has always been in the mold, but it really works well when you vacuum bag the parts. Cowl molds are the same as when Henry had them.

Hey Brian,

10-4 my Friend - Both hull molds and both cowls. Somewhere I have a pic of the sport gas cowl on hull outside Henry's shop - I'll try to find and post here.

Nice to know they re still available. When Henry was having them built, they came with no wood in the hulls. I know of many that had engine rails installed at time of hull build, and other - like Don Maher, preferred the "pan mounted" to a reinforced hull bottom. I have seen numerous that installed a ply frame structure to reinforce the deck to bottom, other prefer not to keep them as light as possible. That hull in CF should be a Great one. CHEERS !!! Bob

I just exchanged some mail with John Borden. He is not making hulls at this time due to work and other commitments. He is taking a year off from racing also. CHEERS !!! Bob1
