Looking for info on a P-Limited or P Sport hydroplanes. I have learned the limiteds have a list of motors to pick from that makes things pretty easy. P Sport gives you a voltage and mAh range to be within.. What are some of you guys using? What is a good P Sport motor - esc combo? Also looking for a Hull. Have seen the Blazer and the ML hulls. Any feedback? Which ML would be better the 31-1/2 or the 33? What is the main diff besides the length?

Both classes are be within the same voltage range basically using 4S packs. That's where the "P" comes from. What motors and ESC are required in the Limited classis is dependent on where you race since there is no national class. In P Sport hydro class, you can use what ever motor and ESC you want. This usually means a more powerful motor requiring a higher amp rated ESC, More mAh capacity in the packs and more $$$. One of the more popular motors would be the Neu 1515 1y, Castle also makes a 1515 1y that's pretty close in performance to the Neu. Be careful if you get offered a nitro Sport 20 to convert into a P-Sport. It can be tricky trying to find a way to tape up the boat so it's water tight. Also trying to fit all the equipment in the boat to get the right CG can be a PITA. Mike Makes great running boats and the smaller version would be better for P-Limited since your are dealing with less power. Obviously the bigger boat would be better suited to full P power being able to run at faster speeds in race water and giving you more room for batteries and such.

I recently built an ML310 sport hydro as P-limited for my wife. The kit was an absolute breeze to build and other than about 3 clicks of rudder trim ran great right off the build table. For P-limited power we went with the AQ UL-1 motor and ESC with a pair of Giant Power packs.

What batterys did you use Don. Is the setup easy.

Samuel, a 4s 5000mah 65c Giant Power is all that is needed with this class of boat. I am pretty sure that is what Don is using. Mike

The build & set up is insanely easy, the only thing that slows you down is waiting for epoxy to cure, LOL! We are running a pair of Giant Power 4S 2600mah 65C packs paralleled.

We have several ML 330s in our club, all are powered by Neu 1521/1.5D motors and 4S2P packs. Due to our water conditions the extra weight of 2P helps as does the larger prop this setup uses compared to a 1515 motor. The 1521 will pull close to 5000 mAh in some one mile heats. These hulls are awesome especially in their handling, if I wanted a wooden hull I'd build one!

Darryl don't sweat the battery placement...usually there is room in the nose for 2 4s batts side by side for parrell hook up....if u run in rough water get the gp335 it rips in rough water....watch out for the cheep batts from hobbyking as they are sometimes too wide compared to giant power to fit side by side

Based on the recent FE Nats in MI, the whiplash is the clear favorite for both P-Ltd and P. Phil Thomas' Stealth is an excellent choice for P-Ltd, but is over powered for full P power. The power system for a full P boat can vary quite a bit, but since many guys run the same boat for both classes they tend to not go too crazy on the P system. If you are comfortable building wood boats, look at the whiplash or ML kit. Otherwise a PT Stealth is a great choice.

I run a PT Stealth with the modified bottom to make it NAMBA legal. It is very competitive in the Ltd class, but a handful for in P although I still managed a podium in P and placed 5th out of 27 in Pltd.

Jay, What is the amp of ESC to be used?

The guys are using either T-180s or Castle 240s with good success. Depending on how it is propped, that motor can easily draw 170-180 amps continuous.

I am looking at a TP Motor. What size would be a good fit for the P Series Boats...?

What size would be comparable to a P-Limited....

P-Sport.....
