    Jersey Skiff vs Cracker box...fair?

All, Thanks for the thoughts. I just wanted to hear from others who have a dog in that fight and might have an opinon on the subject. There was no way of opening the subject without sounding like I was whining. So if I did, so be it. I will have my home built cracker at the ODMBC district...

    Jersey Skiff vs Cracker box...fair?

My problem is that Jersey Skiffs are allowed in a IMPBA sanction race at all. Adding them to the CB class weakens the CB participation. My solution would be to take CB back to what it was in the begining; an unpiped stock motor with canister muffler where sucess depended more on driving skill...

    Jersey Skiff vs Cracker box...fair?

In IMPBA, clubs are running Jersey Skiffs and Cracker Box hulls in the same heat. I am a CB fan and very much enjoy the class BUT I think this is a bad practice. I know the clubs are trying to generate a compete field for racing when there are not enough CBs to make a class, but throwing a...

    ODMBA 16th Annual Invitational August 23rd & 24th

You and I are in violent agreement! I guess my basic problem is that we are sanctioned by IMPBA and they do not recognize Jersey Skiff as a class. Therefore, there is no set of rules to go by that might limit the class enabling an entry level to new competitors or old farts like me! You are...

    ODMBA 16th Annual Invitational August 23rd & 24th

Chuck, Your records bare out my point. Cracker box class has always been challenging to drive. I think was intended to bring an entry level boat into the hobby. When we mix skiffs with them just to make a field, the cracker can't keep up so the cracker entrys in the class drop off to zero. If...

    ODMBA 16th Annual Invitational August 23rd & 24th

I know the district has been running Cracker Boxes with Jersey Skiffs but how does IMPBA feel about the district offering and running a class they don't recognize or define like Jersey Skiff? It's not in the rules anywhere. As a Cracker box driver, I think it is unfair to lump the better...

Capitol R/C Model Boat Club dist 12 points race

Thank you all for the kudoes. The support of the District was equally important to the sucess of the race weekend. It was vital that we have a good turn-out that underlined the goodwill UOSA has extended to us. Thanks to Tracy and Carl for supporting me during the initial meetings with UOSA...

    Sport 20 outboard hydro?

Well, your right. The only class I might fit in to with this boat might be the B or D Hydro class and then I would be running with riggers. My only hope there is to finish a lap before they finish the race. I'll scrap the idea. Too much work not to be able to race it.

    Sport 20 outboard hydro?

Yes, Well sort of, the drive kneels in the boat. There were 8' and 10' classes. Generally running Mecury outboards KE7 or KG7 motors. I owned one but never had the bucks to go racing. Just toyed with it. They were very popular in the 50's and 60's during the outboard racing hayday.

    Sport 20 outboard hydro?

Well, no wonder I was confused when I arrived at the recent District 12 race. We had a competition class that was advertised as a "Sport 21". I arrived with my 21 tunnel and was greeted with "that's not in the class." Since the entries were minimal we raced anyway against a true scale 21...

    Sport 20 outboard hydro?

I have been inspired by the District 12 Sacle meet to build a 1/4 scale 10' outboard hydro, powered by a .21 outboard complete with a 1/4 scale driver. There are lots of plans around for full scale 10' boats so creating 1/4 scale plan lofts would not be a problem. The hull would end up at 30"...

    Glow Driver current output?

I read the thread with interest as I designed a glow driver many years ago using a chopper circuit. I have the schematic and some notes but the general design was to use 12v from the starting battery and pulse it across the plug at 10% duty cycle. The frequency was very low as I remember. I...

Gentelmen.. and Ladies! ;) As a member of the Capitol RC Boat Club, I am envious of your pond and grateful for your hospitality. This was my first visit to Piedmont home water and I hope it will not be my last. Some one mentioned in an earlier post that this was your first District event...
