Does anyone know the best thing to use to seal the inside of the sponsons before covering ? The boat is a wood hotshot sprint... any input will help.

Epoxy thinned with alcohol and sprayed or thinly brushed on makes a good sealer.

Old fashion dope works well and is light but is quite strong smelling so do it in a well ventilated area.

Personally, I use polyurethane varnish to seal all wood surfaces, especially the inside ones, as I glue the boat together.

Hello Guys,

I used to use poly but I came across a sanding sealer which works great and weighs next to nothing. It's called McClosky Floor and Sanding sealer. I've actually used it to seal the inside and outside of a rigger with no other finish and it held up great.

To be quite blunt...Nothing.

Its a race boat... its not worth the weight or the effort. ;)

i use thinned 15 min epoxy, the thinner, the better... apply with a foam brush... use sparingly, it'll weigh it down more than you think... i hope yours does better than mine...
