maybe I restate the question. Should I try to get a diameter that works for me and then stick with that diameter and play with pitch? or stick with a pitch and play with diameter, like we typically do..

I am no prop guru, but to find the best propellor for your setup, you will need to try different pitch and diameter combinations, as well as strut depth, angle, pipe length, glow plug, etc. There are so many different variables that "fixing" any one variable is a bad idea if you are trying to find the best possible setup.

Im with greg on that. It honestly takes time to find the perfect combination and a fall back option for those rough water days. Which means lots of testing and you should always keep a ledger of how things ran with different combos.
