I have a top flight magnetic balancer but it is not very good for smaller props. I know a jewel balancer is the best choice but those are rare in the for sale section. what do you guys use other than what is listed? If you have an extra jewel balancer let me know maybe we can make a deal. Ryon Shaw

for the money ryon, this is a nice small balancer that works nice.. i dont care for the shaft it came with so i had my dad grind me some 3/16 and 1/4 shafts to use.. other than that it is a nice unit.. all metal very sturdy.. the guy is good to deal with and they are CHEAP.

Chris, Have you used it on 1/8 props or small 3/16 props? The top flight works great on 1/4 and larger 3/16 props but is sticky with the baby props.

not on 1/8 but i have used it a TON on 3/16. works great.. very accurate. you won't be disapointed

you can get that top flight balancer to work but you have to take care in the setup.

First thing is to reduce the distance between the magnets and the rod to a minimum. you want both magnets pulling almost equally strong against the rod so it doesn't press hard into either side and but lightly touches the tape on the magnet. Also make the tape a thick as you can while keeping the shaft suspened in the magnetic field. If it sticks hard to either end that will cause friction.

Make sure your rods are not bent and make sure the points on the end of the rod are centered on the rod and not machined off to one side. I centered mine by puttin the rod in a drill then putting the other end against the belt sander. crude but worked nicely.

Next check the balance of the plastic prop cones. You might need to sand a little bit hear and a little bit there to get them balanced.

I got mine to where I can gently blow on the prop and it will spin one way them turn around and spin a turn or two the opposite way on its own before settling to a spot.

Good enough for me. :)

Chris,

That's a sweet little balancer. Thanks for the link. I've got a message into your dad for shafts.

I like this one a lot:) Will do 1/8", 3/16" and 1/4" hub props. All parts, including the shafts, also available separately.

I just bought a Aquacraft Grimracer balancer from my LHS and it seems to work real good. Only balanced one prop so far. I had a Top Flight magnetic balancer that never worked too well, even after replacing the stock shaft and cones with a ground 3/16" steel shaft.
