Hi Mark, hope all is well!

The WTC is essentially the same as last year. The dates are April 30th, May 1st and 2nd. (Friday, Sat. & Sunday) 3 day race.

the flier isn't out yet, mark. but john knight has posted that it will be the same as last year - last weekend in april/first of may. see ya there ;) .

Just to add to the anticipation for the race, we are looking at adding in several classes for the 2010 race. These classes will be added to coordinate with the Southeast OB Tunnel Racing Series being started next year. The series is expected to include this race, 2 in FLA and one in Savannah GA. The final classes and the means of the series being run have not been completed yet and will be announced by others in the near future. However, the classes being considered to be added from the 2009 race are:

21 Kneeler OB Hydro, using a SS or Sport 20 engine (no pipes) - 21 OB engine REQUIRED

Open FE tunnel

Open tunnel consisting of .48 engines and higher

OB Hydro, such as a rigger with a 21 OB engine, similar to the Spitfire - 21 OB engine REQUIRED

So if you have a kneeler, or want one, or a Spitfire, or a FE tunnel rocket, etc., put it on your Christmas list and get it built for the race. It is fairly certain that these classes will be added. The race flyer should be out in about a month and the final classes for the race will be listed. We also hope that the attendance for the 2010 will be back to normal but the economy will dictate that for many. And we also expect the future dates for this race will continue to be the same period each year, around the first weekend of May. I made a note of this about 5 months ago to all for advance planning needs.

As an additional note, the Fall Nationals here in Charleston will be Oct 8-10, 2010, also for advance planning purposes.

Sport D "OUTLAW" which is any .45 motor, but no tuned pipes - can style mufflers are acceptable for this Tunnel class or K&B thru the lower unit exhaust.

D Tunnel - .45 modified class

Just a quick note on the STRA status. Classes seem to be in line with "Worlds" and am presently working on race dates here in Fl. First event looks to be in March in Brandon, still working out dates as not to conflict within the distrct. Remember we have 2 day monthly District 3 points races and a one day WCRA series to work around. WTC next then hopefully in Sept in Savanah and finish out in Florida in Nov-Dec?, site and host club in progess. We haven't nailed down race fees and awards which will run in parallel. Input from all the board will be comming in. I suspect daily trophies to be certifcate and glory here in Fl till we get some resourses built up. Series awards we are looking into something like jackets, shirts and or hats. More as the powers to be firm things up. Will post an official thread when we have all the commitments in line. STORM or Southeast Tunnel Outboard Racing Masters series seems to be the accronym that works. Had to work in the term outboard as this is a tunnels plus organization. (Mod V & Hydro) If its a clampon we race it.

Mic, Dec. probably be real good for the last race since there is no District race that month.

John, Is Open FE replacing Spec FE, or an additional FE class? How many racers have shown interest in the Open class? Thanks, James

It will be an additional FE class. The Spec P tunnel class that we had this year will be offered again in 2010. All the classes run in this year's race will be offered in 2010 with some more added. There has been interest expressed for a larger sized FE tunnel class so the conversation has migrated itself to a Open FE class. That way we can gauge the interest and the sizes that most want to run.

Honestly we are looking to scoop up some of the FE interest in the tunnels and get them a race (or a race series) to compete in. There are very few options for them now. Going to give them a shot at it for now and hope they will come.
