As the post states I would like to build a fe tunnel hull that is 27 inches or smaller and make it an Inboard.

I have wanted to do this for years with a nitro engine and never did.

Can you name me a boat that would be a good candidate for this?

Please don't think I am crazy, just would like to se the attitude of such a boat on the water. Prefer fiberglass, epoxy or carbon fiber but would use a wood boat if that is the best hull for this.

Also, can a good tunnel hull run with hydros?

I was maybe wanting to run it in the hydro class if it would work.

I knew a guy that had an inboard tunnel years ago, the thing was very fast and handled great. This was back in the mid 80's, he used to outrun riggers with it.

I think a Villain VS1 would be a great candidate. Inexpensive, great handling hull (as an outboard at least), and light.

The Villian I bought from you is 27 3/4" . Hes looking fo a 27" or less to run in the 2S lipo class. I don't know how it would look with 3/4 " cut off the sponsons . My Bandit Killer hull is 27" . Maybe other huls from about 15 yrs ago are about that long. I'd think you'd do better with a cat hull . Its not going to be east fitting a motor and mount plus esc and batteries ectin a hull made for an outboard.

Its a job converting a hull to FE as it is and get the CG right .

The scat cat tunnel is an abs hull and I after looking at the layout I don't think it will work.

It needs to be either wood, fg. or cf. Have pretty well given up on this as not much out there. Found a nice rcmk hydro that I may get.

a wood hot shot sprint by dumas would fit your needs. i'm not sure if dumas still makes the kit, but i see them pop up on ebay(already built) quite often. stay away fron the abs version, they just don't run/handle very well.

Leecraft XTR-21
might be too long, larry. his fe class specs 27" or less. my leecraft measures at 27 1/8" +, closer to 27 1/4"......... unless they have been changed, i believe mine is an original tommy lee hull.

Leecraft website lists them as 27". They measure the bottom side of the hull. The boat is shoe box construction ,the top deck overhang makes it longer than 27".

Atta Boy Lair! Kick'm once while he's down

shut up,jw, ya old fart :p   . larry, guess it depends on how the rules are written. if it states overall length, that's the longest dimension. but a little work on the cap overhang with a dremel & epoxy would fix that ;) . might not even need the epoxy, if you have a steady hand............... i was kinda surprised that the boat was that short, just looks longer. i hadn't measured mine before just a little while ago.

I have a 29" WOF I will sell, here are some pics:

being a WOF I believe you can cut the sponsons down 2" to the 27" you are looking for.

???????????????????????????????
Been playng with html and thought that is how you get pictures to pop up on the post, guess not, got button happy and wanted to preview and clicked wrong button, all fixed now.
i knew there was a link there, but it was just too easy, doug. see ya in a few weeks, in s.c.!

I also run in salt water and have two inboard tunnels. They are fast, and very agile. An added bonus is that they also self-right if you seal off one internal sidewall and make a flood channel.

The largest one I have is a Roxter, it's 20" long. It is made by Heiko Danz and was shipped from Germany. They are not cheap, http://mbp-rc.de/Roxter-F1-GFK.

The hulls mentioned above would be difficult to configure as an inboard because you have to be able to tape down the canopy in a reasonable fashion and have an internal space that can house the servo, motor, esc, battery's, etc..

I have been thinking about doing an inboard Aeromarine Predetor, but this is to long for your application.

For a larger inboard tunnel candidate, you may want to look at the H&M Skater or the Graupner F1. Both of these hulls rip when set up as inboards and are easy to make self- righting. Here is a nice Graupner

Well, I was pretty sure I wanted to give up on this as it seems the choices are so limited because of the 27 inch rule. The European video and setup seemed to handle quite well. I was pleased to see that my idea was not something over the top. Will keep looking for a hull but have decided to get the RCMK hydro HV for now.
