How much radio antenna do you need to have extended above the hull for acceptible reception?? I am thinking of running my antenna wire from its center radio box location to the rear deck lid before it raises up in its bracket. It would have approx 6' of lateral run before its raise of approx 5" above the deck. Is this enough for safe reception?? Also to any one of you guys that went to Toledo, There was a manufacture that had loaded antennas for sale?? remember who it was ?????? Thanks

It is best to run the attenna up directly out of the radio box. One of the bruline anntenna mast tubes will mount in your box lid, If you run the antenna wire horiz it can pick up interference from the drive line.

DO NOT use the loaded antennas and cut your reciever antenna, unless you like building, crashing, building, crashing...

So you don't recommend using the Deans antenna? It seems like all the airplane guys around link using them and have no problems.

In a boat setup the radio is installed closer to all the moving parts and the antenna needs to be away from these as much as possible. The boats operating on the surface, at the distance we run will have glitches.

The planes are up in the sky and the instalation for the radio is better..

Been there done that kind of a deal.
