Glow Plug Burned Out ONE RUN

My rigger 3.5 Hawk OS .21RZ-M hauls BUTT but after ONE run, maybe 6 laps I found that the Glow Plug MC-9 wire coil was distorted AND Broke Any ideas..... TOO Lean ??? Running 60% nitro.

One thing I forgot to say is the boat drove fine back in to shore, never died. I believe the coil in the plug broke when it cooled down. If that helps.

are you just running to lean??? does the motor sizzle and smell lean when you bring it in.

you may be leaning on it trying to get it to run hard instead should be looking at something else..

what motor.. prop.. pipe ( lenght ) head clearence.. and are you running a 3rd channel needle.. oh. and are you restricting the water?

This was only the second time I had the boat out first time WAY too rich, would barely run. Needle was 3 3/4 turns out went in to 2 3/4 turns out and ran great but I think I went TOO lean on it. Sure ran good ! Didn't seem too get too hot but I may have missed that. Cooling lines OK. OS .21RZ-m ABC H-5 prop, Irwin Quiet pipe, remote needle but not 3rd channel.

Think I was just too lean. What do you think I should do 1/4 turn out or 1/2 turn ?

What Chris meant when he said are you restricting the cooling line was, Are you intentionally restricting the water flow to control engine temps or not. What needle are you using ? Sounds lean.

Sorry guess I don't know too much about this boat as I only have it a month, don't know what needle it is, and as far as I can see no restrictions on the cooling.

Probally too lean, donb't make such BIG changes. Try 1/4 turn at a time until you get the feel for your setup. But add at least 3/4s turn now, then work down slowly.

I just looked at the plug under a magnifiing glass and I can see some whiteness on the broken coil at the top. My old plug looks much better. I believe I went TOO lean. Think I will try 3/4-1/2 turn out .

yep white is hot.. hot hot hot and lean and mean.

one other thing without getting to out of sorts.. the pipe you have has a TON TON TON of back pressure.. first are you running pipe pressure.. second if you have a chance once you get your needle set.. you may try a pipe that is less restrictive as alot of back pressure can cause the motor to get really hot.. ( from what i have seen )

start with the needle and then go from there.

Went in one full turn...........I think that did it. Will back it out 1/2 turn and try again.

Richened it up 1/2 turn and ran GREAT, plug looks great too.

Maybe a little fat but that's ok for now. Head temp was only 127.
