I've also used this product:

works very well on aluminum. I spray on engine, scrub with toothbrush, rinse with warm water. Repeat if necessary. Important to not leave product on parts too long (ie. spray-on part, scrub with tooth brush immediately, rinse off). I always scrub with dish soap after (to remove any remaining product). Also, I always wear gloves while using this product (ie. nitrile).
