Now that the ‘big’ events are over in the USA – where do you go next for a big rush? Why not try Australia. The meeting we have been talking about since last year is now on. The Model Boat Club of New South Wales (that’s in Sydney) and the Australian Model Power Boating Association are proud to announce the running of the

2008 World Circuit Racing Challenge

The event will be held over 5 days in January 2008 - from Tuesday 8th to Saturday 12th.

There will be ‘open water practice’ on Sunday January 6th and ‘Controlled Practice’ on Monday January 7th.

The meeting is open to all Australian Model Power Boating members and we extend a warm invitation to all model boaters from around the world to come and enjoy the ‘Challenge’ with us in Sydney, Australia. Overseas visitors will need single event membership to ensure insurance coverage which we will arrange for you.

Remember, our seasons are the reverse of the northern hemisphere – January is our summer. So this is your chance to escape the cold and snow, come to Sydney to compete in a great model boating event and spend some time in a country you have always wanted to see.

The ‘Challenge’ race format is a little different for many of you from outside Australia. Here’s how it works.

Each competitor will race in SEVEN (7) Heats of Circuit Racing for each class entered.

Scoring will be by a ‘Points for Place’ method. We will then drop each competitors worst heat result, and the competitor with the highest score in each class, will be the ‘2008 World Circuit Racing Challenge’ winner.

All AMPBA officially recognised classes will be run, including Electric. In addition, there will be a Multi Engine class for Twins. See www.ampba.asn.au for Classes and Rules.

A Team Marathon will also be run on Saturday 12th. for Nitro and Gas classes only. Rules for this event will be published on our web page www.2008challenge.com

The venue for the event will be the Sydney International Regatta Centre Regatta Centre, on the main rowing lake – right in front of the grandstand. This was the site of the 2000 Olympics. There will be Tent space, tables and chairs will be available and International entrants will be assisted at every stage of the event.

This is a beautiful venue with all the conveniences. This site is approx. 1 hours drive from the city.

The Model Boat Club of N.S.W. has ‘block-booked’ all the cabins and motel-style rooms at The Nepean River Holiday Village, and this will be our Race Headquarters. We have an ‘Accommodation Director’ to handle all your individual requirements, he will be able to advise competitors of other alternative accommodation.

Our event web page www.2008challenge.com has all the information you need for Classes, Accommodation, Rules, Fuel orders, etc, as well as listing a number of different contacts and their e-mail addresses to handle any and all your questions and requests.

The ‘Challenge’ will conclude with the Presentation Dinner to be held on the Saturday night when we will present the winners with their ‘2008 World Challenge’ Trophies and memorabilia.

This will be one of those ‘once in a lifetime’ experiences so please, make the effort to be there and join us ‘just for the fun of it’.
