    Dave Homer's wife Nora.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words, and especially to Mike for the contribution.. It will be used accordingly.. Bob, I'm sure you have met her a few times... it's been dang near forever since I ran a boat, I still have 3 that could go with some reconditioning.. Nora and I were married...

    Vintage Mono Hull's

Ron, I had the 3d's way back when we first met.. Had a 42" Ruff-Stuff SS w/a K&B 7.5 that would give the 60 class fits.. later on I wished I still had that.. I think even with the subsurface drive and the I25X it still would have been competitive.. Had a Gary Girvin 20 hull that seemed to be...

    PayPal pros and cons

I run a home-based business building high-end musical instrument speaker cabs (yes my days as an R/C boater have come in handy in this business...lol..) Paypal is an essential part of what I do. My shopping cart is tied into it, and in the 3+ years I've been in business, paypal hasn't caused...

    The state of the hobby

Several years ago I seen this coming. I commented way back then about how our boating organizations should follow AMA's lead and make running site procurement a #1 priority. Folks don't want to drive an hour or longer just to put a boat in the water. Many years back I tried putting together a...

    Silent engines

As Ron mentioned, I've known Ric for many years. During the late 80's/early 90's, he pretty much siglehandedly promoted R/C powerboat racing in SW lower Michigan. The races at the Battle Creek Elks' club were largely his doing. I was there later on to help... He could talk engineering for...

    Depressing Economy

Working in the automobile industry (w/a Japanese owned company) I guess I'm one of the fortunate ones. I'm working, but getting one to two weeks "vacation" a month. This is actually working a bit to my advantage, because the combination of company benefits and time off is allowing me to get...

Thinking on a new 45 Mono

I sold my 3D's years ago, but at times I wished I hung on to that 45 size SS hull. Betcha I could still make it run somewhat competitively, subsurface drive, JG I25X, and all... Back in the day that gave 65's all they wanted... Under current IMPBA rules, the SS hulls are now illegal.. The...

    Jobs / Employed?

I've never seen it this bad, either. When I got laid off in November, the company expected to call me back in December. Since then I have heard they have gone to four day work weeks, shut down an extra week in January, and plan to lay off another 50 or so in February. Company won't return my...

OT Funny stuff. A work of art

My guess that'll show up on CMT, they have a show called "My Big Redneck Wedding".. looks like something you'd see there... my guess is the bachelorette party was still going on inside the trailer...

OT.......The Official Canadian Temperature Conversion Chart

Anybody catch a weather report from Hell, MI? There's been a few things happening lately that could be attributed to it....

    O/T FORD QUESTION??

Trace those two lines and see where they go. If they wind up at the front of the engine, they are heater lines. If one or more wind up on a pump-like device driven by the engine belts, that's air conditioning. First thing to check though is coolant level in the radiator.

    motor problem 21 k&b

Here's an old trick that works well on those gold carbs. You might not be getting enough flow through that needle no matter how far out you go. I used to take out the fuel nipple and put on a pressure fitting gasket. That raises the nipple inside the carb body and helps the flow. Another...

    O/T HOW BOUT THEM GATORS!!!

If I was Sam Bradford, I would seriously consider staying in school one more year. Tonight would be the last championship game he could participate in.. Getting drafted by the Lions is career suicide..

"Vintage" boats...what do you remember about........

That looks like a fiberglass version of the original Dumas DV-40.. early-mid 70's-ish..

"Vintage" boats...what do you remember about........

I still have a box of JG props from the old days. Tom Daniels showed me the speed secret to those (taking out all the wedge). I bet if you still had an old subsurface 45 mono, set the strut depth 3/8" and slap on an I25X prepared right, it would still hit 50..

"Vintage" boats...what do you remember about........

I was Jim Wilson's northern driver in those years.. We went to the Indy Unlimited a few years with his designs. His idea was to mount the engine between the front sponson booms, and have the fuel tank at the CG. One year at Indy was particularly memorable.. Very windy day, boats were just...

"Vintage" boats...what do you remember about........

Ahh, for the old days... My first boat was a wood Dumas DV-20 with a now very rare K&B 15S. Gary Girvin set up the drive line on that, a Hughey flex cable w/a Hughey mono prop. Hey, it ran... My first race boat was a 36" 3D mono with a K&B Torp 40. What I didn't know at the time (remember...

    O/T.... ham....

For new years eve I make scratch-built pizza, the only thing that I will willingly spend more than 30 seconds in the kitchen preparing (I think the Food Channel is twisted comedy..) Looks like the lefover ham we have is going to get cubed and used in something other than dog food....

    OT AC/DC

I've played bass in numerous local/regional bands over the years, and I've always said I could teach anyone how to play AC/DC tunes on bass.. one handed...lol.. If you can pump steady eighth notes hitting the open A, D, and E strings, you got it nailed.... I've been known to put my left hand...

OT: This guy made my day!

Yep, if we had more Congressmen like him, this country would be better off... It also appears our President still has a little backbone... he's not rubber-stamping the House bill to bail out the automakers. Reports are he's looking for the unions to give in as well... Bush may have made...
