The tach from Hyperformance products is an "Audio Tack", Picks up sound waves. I have one and it works well. I use it on both my nitro and gas boats. ocassionally it won't pick up certain motors especially if they have a muffler but generally works well.

You guys act suprised that this guy had his dog on a ride. He just wanted to take his pet with him, like many if us do when we get in our car or truck. Notice that he was following DMV rules by wearing a helmet for safety.
