Here I use a 2" plastic tube left over from my shop dust collection system install. About 3 or 4 back & forth passes then it's on to the 1" dowel rod to tighten up the roll. The key here is smooth even pressure, slow rolling and a good piece of foam which is an absolute must have. Definitely practice a few times but you will be surprised how easy this is once you get the "touch".
