Engine building 008.jpg

The square pieces in the photo, after machining, hardening, grinding & flash chrome plating are mounted to aluminum back ends. This prevents any wear in this area & reduces rotary valve drag. Rotary valves are carefully balanced in a magnetic balancer. Unbalanced rotary valves shattered at 28,000 rpm. Both rotary valves and back plates are made of full hard 0-1 tool steel.
