I had picked up this with another kit and curious to what it is? It looks like a neat old boat but with the wide center section and the sponsons close to the body like that will it be a good running boat if I put all the work into finishing it?
Any info I would appreciate on this one.

interesting, looks like a circa-1970’s design? Clean
I thought it was cool too but its not the lightest. I just don't know if its worth building it all up. It did have a octura strut and a marine specialties rudder on it from the same time period and a k&b 45 was in it also. I just want some opinions whether its worth it to finish prime and paint it all up . I'm torn at the moment.

Looks like Fred's rigger....

Fred Flintstone's !!!
I about fell out of my chair laughing. Its 3.5lbs just sitting there empty .That's why I am not sure its even worth putting all the work into it to get it finished up. It needs to go on a serious diet.
I had been thinking to ask on here if anyone had ever used monokote to cover a boat to try to make a super light boat water is pretty brutal though it might just pop right through it even on sides the top might not be able to hold up .

Sand it and clear it with thinned epoxy...
or spray clear...

It probably would make a fun nostalgic rigger..
just don't expect it to be extremely fast...
I think it almost needs dual engines or a bigger cc engine like an 80 for it. I do have a rossi 80 I might be able to shoe horn in it.

Maybe an old Hustler? That's a wild guess. And yeah, the Fred Flintstone crack was good!

What I remember about a guy in the club I ran with in the 70's that had a 40 Hustler is that they were pretty "boxy" looking.

The early Crapshooters had wood booms like that until the late 1970’s but went to aluminum tubes at that time. Pinkert used wood booms as well but it doesn’t remind me of his work. Hummm?
Thanks John

Ya know John you just awakened some brain cells. The very first Crapshooters looked exactly like that only the outer plywood sheeting on the balsa wood sides wasn't there yet. The nose was straight across with a rounded wood block glued up front. So, yes 99.00% that it's an early version Crapshooter. Later versions included aluminum boom tubes, and solid cast foam front sponsons as well as a 60 size and later a 20 size. The originals were 40 size hulls.

It had this 7.5 in it when I got it. I wonder if it would be able to handle a bigger motor. And should I widen the sponsons with carbon tubes for todays use or just leave it as is. I never saw one run. It looks wide enough to have 2 engines in it. :p

Back in the day those boats came with a 3/16" straight drive shaft. That one has a flex drive in it. No idea what to expect from that change. Spreading front sponsons may or may not improve performance - it could cause it to porpoise or it may improve handling and turn better.

I will suggest adding more power to that hull as-is ain't a good idea. My first Crapshooters were that size and with OPS 60's in them would torque roll off the water at 80-90 MPH ~10' high in a very spectacular fashion when they hit the water. They were fast boats with a decent 40 in them.

That old Marine Specialties rudder looks just like one of my old ones. Drilled out the water pickup and epoxied a brass tube onto the trailing edge - did several of them like that. Cast blades, I broke several of them when the boats did the torque roll launches into the air.

At 80-90 mph…. That’s funny right there ..I don’t care who you are . Lol

So would a straight shaft straight out the back be better than flex under ? I need to search old pictures on here maybe I can find out how one was setup. It sure would be easier to do all the changes now with nothing installed.

Could be old pinckert Gator front sponson look gator the wood booms had angle glued to the fronts, not so sure about the rear sponson design. maybe just an old scratch built hydro/

Beauty of it was, with a full size Octura 2.6 and the OPS 60 w/ stockRC carb, pipe shortened 1cm from stock length, wound up good and tight, when they lifted off the water they were airborne long enough for me to react, throttle servo to react and engine to spool down to a safe level by the time they made re-entry. Never hydraulic'd one. :)

Stripped a few rudder servo gear sets too.
