Gear drive version?? Not sure why the exhaust would need to be swapped on it for that though...

the backwards 45VAC is for gear drive on FSR-V boats.

Not too sure if Stu got any of the Camillo 91's, the all have been sold

to various dealers.

I have a prototype gear VAC45 to test. Nice looking solid motor with longer stroke and longer conrod than RS45. Big ports! I'll post some internal pics if Mauro allows me to.Gear drive motor has exhaust stub on same side as carb because if we ran it like the RS45, the VAC motor being longer would cause problems such as being too high in the boat.

Dave,

With the gears towards the front of the boat will the new layout allow the drive shaft angle in the boat to be reduced?
Compared to my gearbox it makes zero difference. ompared to some other gearboxes, it will allow a shallower shaft angle

Camillo was the designer/machinist that started CMB. Several years ago he visited me and stayed at my home. We went back into the wilderness on a fly-fishing trip. He was in his 70'a at the time and really enjoyed the trip. I've still got photos of him riding horseback on a trail ride. We rode out to some beaver ponds along the North Fork of the Sun River in Montana.

Camillo was smart, understood engines, and will be missed.

Here are the spec's on the new VAC 45

Bore .832

Stroke .843

Rod length 1.536

I wrote a long post late last night on the new 45 and when I hit post it just disappeared on me.

When I get a chance I will do it over again.

Thanks for the info.

So this means that the VAC has a longer stroke than a MAC, but has the same rod lenght - not a direct clone.

Model marine supplies informs: This engine is to be the replacement for the 45HR & the 45Rs hydro engines which will soon end production.

Does anyone know if this is true ?

Timings and any other info will be appreciated.

VAC 45. bore 21.1mm, stroke 21.4mm, Rod length 39mm.. Timing durations as I measure them, exhaust 187, transfers 129, boost 135. Induction opens 152, closes 66. This is the gear drive version but I would guess the direct drive version is the same. Carb bore is 11mm but the carb body will allow 12mm bore at least.

What you have is alittle different than what I got.

Rotor timing opens 25 abdc closes 70 atdc tot 225 CMB states it's supposed to be 25-65 tot 220

Exhaust port timing 186 in center and 180 out at the sides of the port.

Transfer port timing 130

Boost port timing 134

Head button was same as 45HR but cut down to fit new sleeve size. Head volume was too big so I made new button

with smaller volume and it worked much better.

The all new VAC 45 Has more torque than any 45 that I have ever owened. It will still turn rpm but it likes alittle larger volume

pipe very short. Mine is at 8 3/4 from center of case. Slitely pitched up 1657 on my Crapshooter in heat race set up is

running 80 - 82 mph. I have put a 1860 cut to 57 mm and cupped up and it has run 88 mph and never hurts a plug.

If any one has any questions on the new VAC motors please fill free to call me.
