after graduating h.s in 1969, i promptly moved out of the parents house. had a job driving tow truck for a local gas station. no car, bus & thumb got old in a hurry........ one friday after work, i cashed my paycheck & went down "sled row" (79th st. in miami, back then)to buy the first $100 car i saw. i ended up with a '60 plymouth fury with a 318 poly & 2 factory 4 bbls. on it( think broderick crawford in the old hiway patrol tv show). got about 2 blocks from the car lot, & the fuel pump died. walked back, they went & got the car. said if i waited, they would fix it right then. while i waited around back, the "mechanic"( i use the term loosely) had about a 63 chevy just smokin' up a CLOUD. he takes the air cleaner off, revs the engine WAAAAY high, & dumps a handful of something down the carb  . the engine spits & stumbles, then clears out & the smoke fades & finally is all but gone! i ask him what he just did. he said he dumped a handful of ajax cleanser in it to "burnish the cylinder walls"  ....he told me it wouldn't last long, but would get it sold. made me feel real confident 'bout my purchase <_< . later found out my car was an ex naval military police car, hence then 2 4's. not real good out of the hole, but would bury the certified 120 speedo. next was an ex FHP '71 fury 1 with a 440 ($1400 with a paint job), it would bury the certified 140 speedo!! like james, been a mopar nut ever since.

1968 chevelle pea green with a black vinyl top. My uncle owned a garage and fixed it up and sold it to my mom for 1000.00 It had Cragar wheels and traction bars . I worked on the base cutting grass and my uncle modified the motor and tranny and i could run at the track on amaetur friday nights and win races. My mom sold it to a friend after i left for college and 1 week later he was killed when he lost control street racing and flipped it. In college once my scholorship kicked in, i took some my parents tuition refund money and bought a 1972 orange beetle with twin dellorto carbs and a nitrous bottle. Fun little car, i really enjoyed beating the hell out of Ford escort GT at a red light. After college i traded it in for a red Toyota Supra TT. I loved this car and it was the first one I paid for on my own so i babied it . Years later this car was stolen while i was in the hospital.

Yea Robin, two fours were OK when gas was 20 cents a gallon! When I got my license it was just that 20 cents a gallon and then in six months the gas companies had "gas wars" and it went down to 10 cents a gallon! I could cruz all weekend on $2 of gas. Thhose were the days.

BTW, I bet a lot of Americans don't know that right now and for the last 30 years the price of a gallon of gas in Saudi Arabia is 27 cents a gallon, fixed price, never goes up or down. I worked there for four years so I know this first hand. James

My first car:

typical european Fiat. A 127 75 sport.

The 75 is with regard to the bhp of this thing.

I modified it a little with a racing camshaft, weber carburetors, different supension and other set of wheels. It was a little go-kart in cornering, pirellis were really sticking.

Neat, sorta looks like the Plymouth Horizon I had in Germany, just a different grill.

Bone stock 1970 Chevelle 307 car / mint green-perfect condition inside and out.75,000 some odd miles. Belonged to the old guy across the street from my parents- he got it new at the local dealer. I wanted it since I was 13 and talked to him all the time about it. By the summer I was 15, I had earned enough for my Dad to match some cash to buy the car (had to work it off) and did. Couldn't drive it other than with my dad along during the day, but it was mine. I was a month away from turning 16 and my brother was in a really bad wreck in Alaska, he rehabbed at our house- but what really sucked is my Dad decided he could take the Chevelle when he was better. I finally got the car back a year and a half later- BEAT. Tore up int- dents-ran like azz.

From there I said hell with stock and in went a massaged 350-gear change-vette rally wheels, ect. Will see if I can find a pic or two- have before and afters somewhere.

Andy

Yep, bought my first and second car for $75 each. Paid off a 90 day note on the second car that my Dad co-signed for me at the Ford dealership.

My first car was a 88 Ford Thunder Bird. I got it for 300 bucks. The car burnt so much oil I had to replace spark plugs every 5000 miles. Also had to put 20w50 in it.
