What are some good places to select a motor , esc and related hardware for my first venture into electric? Boat is 28 " long
Guessing the lid needs to seal ? Total electric noob .

A 4 cell setup with a small motor will be more than plenty of fun and speed in a 28" mono.
You can search for P-Ltd setups here or on OSE forums. There are at least a dozen good options.

If you want a frugal setup here is my recommendation for start:

TP3640/6D 2430kv TP3640/6D
OSE Raider ESC OSE Raider ESC
There are too many options for batteries to list. You will want about 5000-6000mAh total for a small boat. you can do this with a single 5000mAh cell or best would be a pair of 2500-3300mAh 4S packs that you connect in parallel.
Run .150 cable from Octura or Bullard. OSE has them assembled here; OSE .150 cable
Run a teflon liner in 1/4 brass
Use this Octura coupler: Octura 5mm to .150 cable
Go with Speedmaster 21 mono hardware.
An Octuta X437/3 or X440 will be a good place to start prop wise.

If you run a pair of smaller lipos then plan on mounting them on either side of the middle. Mount the motor in the middle to get a nice gentle bend. ESC directly ahead of the motor.

If you want to run a single large pack then the motor needs to go pretty far back with the ESC off to the left side and the battery directly ahead of the motor.
