West Systems, and probably others, don't recommend thinning their epoxies. Heating it with a heat gun will make epoxy thin enough to flow into the wood to seal it. Also, epoxy has poor UV resistance. Manufacturers recommend coating an epoxy sealed surface with paint or a UV resistant clear coating. If you need to cover a large surface, use a paint roller, not spray.

Thinned enough to spray it would not be nearly as good as 2 part epoxy paint would be.

Thinned enough to spray it may not have any strength if it even dries properly. Then since you still have to paint epoxy you would still have that step to go anyhow.

Use TOTAL BOAT 2 part PENETRATING Epoxy as a sealer.
It is thin and designed to penetrate the would.

Then sand and then spray,I use PPG, clear.
Gets rid of the grain
Sand 400/600 then spray paint.

The penetrating epoxy is at Jamestown
