My e-mail and 87 others is blowing up on people registering on the same frequency to not run one individual. That individual is primarily a racing partner, you travel and pit with, or in my case a family member. Father-son and now grandson. 20-30 years ago as we traveled to out of town races with manual registration we used the same frequencies to pit for each other and share starting equipment. When there were not enough boats to split a heat we made do and found pit people and ran together. At larger races which are the ones we like to travel to we never had problems with the courtesy of letting us separate.
Now with on line registration and 95% of us on DSM you list the same primary channel to keep separate, and the computer recognizes the split. You come in on DSM and it is an issue like you cheated the whole field.
So why are we making it hard for people that travel, share expenses, and want their pit person that they are comfortable with to come to and support your "toy boat event".
It's unfair I have been told as we don't race everyone. With 12 entrants and say 3 pairs on same frequencies (not same for all pairs) you still have the chance of racing 10 of 11 contestants.
Is it Cheating anyone? When a team pair runs apart they cannot effect the outcome of a heat or race. When we run in the same heat we can team up and allow the better in points to advance a position. So then we can affect an outcome. Now has anyone here ever told another racer he won't beat them as they need points and your out of contention? It happens more than you know. Buddy racing.
So what are the pro's and cons?
Pit person- I have been told just find someone it doesn't matter. (toy boats again) Well my regular pit person hasn't won a heat for me but he has saved more than a few collisions. If I tell Jay to turn left he doesn't question it as he knows I see something he doesn't. Sharp left and avoids a dead boat. Also having someone you trust to launch your equipment is a big thing. I have tossed people in and my bad there out before they start as I wasn't sure of how to launch a certain boat.
Safety here all around. Ask a NASCAR driver to just pick a spotter out of the pits.
Racers are more likely to choose your clubs event if you make it friendly. I spend nearly $1,000 travel and lodging to go to a 3 -4 day event 500+ miles away. At an event here in Fl 2 guys came all the way from Australia and ran each other in a majority of heat accepting a random computer scramble. They probably won't do that again. Your traveling partner more than likely runs the same classes as that's what brought you together in the first place. I have traveled and wound up running 4 of my local guys that run together all the time. We all scramble for pit people and we traveled to race others. I realize you have to accept things but just pairing a couple would make it more fun to travel.
So what isn't fair? If you want fair just group the top 6 in points in the final heat and "teams" will run for themselves. Are two people that good they need to race each other to cut their points? Again running together is the "team" advantage to control an outcome.
By the way I have been registering straight up for the last couple years (other than my grandson who we need to pit for) and fortunately we have enough boats to run other classes. Not everyone is in that position. Not as much fun to travel.
So who is all bent out of shape against "team racers"? Could it be losing and sour grapes?
Flame suit on!
